VP, Treaty Casualty Underwriter

Job description

The position is responsible for developing, marketing, and underwriting of General Casualty treaty business as well as cross train into Professional Lines.  

·  Minimum of 7 to 10 years of reinsurance underwriting or reinsurance broking experience required.  General Casualty line focus – GL, Auto, UMB, Construction, Energy, Environmental, etc. 
·  Strong knowledge regarding Liability reinsurance is preferred - General Casualty line focus – GL, Auto, UMB, Construction, Energy, Environmental, etc. 
·  Strong understanding of actuarial methods and pricing philosophy key to the reinsurance purchase.  Ability to work with and engage actuaries. 
·  Excellent analytical skills
·  Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
·  Positive attitude and a wiliness to contribute and work collaboratively in a fast paced environment 
·  Strong Microsoft office skills, particularly excel. 
·  Willingness to learn and expand knowledge to support both GL and PL lines of business. 
·  Willingness to work collaboratively and mentor rising star talent 
·  College degree and equivalent work experience.

“In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or range thereof, for roles that will be performed in New York. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR’s total compensation package for employees.  Pay Range: $245k-$275k salary per year.  Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives.  In addition, we provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement saving plan, paid holidays and paid time.

Underwriting

·  Evaluate new and renewal General Casualty and potentially, Professional Liability treaties.
·  Structure and negotiate appropriate terms and conditions on deals that support SCOR appetite.
·  Evaluate and negotiate contract wordings.
·  Evaluate and negotiate pricing, in conjunction with actuarial support.
·  Actively engage in and perform underwriting audits as well as participate in meetings for both current and potential clients.
·  Discuss underwriting and management issues with executives at primary insurance client companies.
·  Actively monitor market trends and engage in strategic discussions with internal and external parties. 
·  Actively mentor and assist in the training and development of less experienced underwriting staff on various lines of business supported by SCOR.
·  Support and actively engage in internal projects. 

 

Marketing

·  Identify clients and new business that align with and support SCOR strategy and targets. 
·  Identify brokers and build relationships with those that handle accounts that fit the SCOR underwriting goals.
·  Perform marketing trips to broker offices and build market presence.
·  Attend industry conventions to promote SCOR and develop business relationships.

 

Account Management

·  Work collaboratively with all internal parties to manage individual deals and overall client relationships, and diligently maintain all documentation for assigned accounts as per SCOR guidelines and process. 
·  Understand and follow all SCOR underwriting and pricing guidelines.
