Internship “State of the art for industrial wireless communication protocols”

Control & Signaling Line of Business (Industry BU) is, with more than 400 million euros sales in 2015, the worldwide leader of products and solutions for industrial control, with a catalogue including industrial push buttons and switches, light towers, hoisting control systems, industrial joysticks and wireless remote control systems.

Within the R&D department of the Control & Signaling Line of Business (Industry BU), you take part to the development of products and solutions for Industrial Automation for the worldwide market.

Integrated in an international team passionate of innovation, you are in relationship with the Marketing, Industrialisation, Manufacturing, Quality, Laboratories teams, as well as with the manufacturing facilities and external partners.

This internship is in the context of research for a new reliable industrial wireless communication protocol for ISM (2.4GHz) band. The protocol should address a star network topology with high number of connected slaves (10+) taking into consideration the response time ( 99%) constraints.

Typical industrial environment is very complex from the electromagnetic point of view, with the presence of external interference, large obstacles, scatterers, multi-path, etc. Moreover, we have to handle a mobile topology: some operators move in the factory and control the engines remotely with a wireless device. Similarly, mobile robots (e.g. conveyor) may move from one machine to another introducing additional complexity in the wireless propagation.

Finally, the candidate will be able to be independent in analyzing international journals (IEEE, JWCN, …) to extract valuable technical information and make proposal for mechanisms based on industrial applications.
