ASCO Power Technologies, an industry leader in the manufacturing of automatic transfer switches, industrial control products and power control systems, services and solutions, has an exciting career opportunity for a Design Engineer in Clearwater FL.

Position Summary:

The Design Engineer designs new, or enhances existing, Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) to meet customer needs in a publicly owned company environment. This includes products for low voltage communication (1V – 60V), low voltage AC or DC power including photovoltaic (120V – 1500V), as well as medium voltage (1500V – 4160V) applications and additional products may be considered within the company's portfolio including products related to power quality, power monitoring, lightning protection, energy reduction, etc.

Essential Functions:

· Actively participate in all aspects of product life cycle including: initial conceptualization, commercial feasibility, drawings, material & component evaluation, prototype construction, testing, validation & debugging, Bill of Material (BOM) creation, Manufacturing Instruction (MI) creation, regulatory certification, hand-off to manufacturing, manufacturability enhancements, continuous product improvements, occasional technical assistance of manufacturing & floor support issues, etc. (ASCO utilizes a Product Development Process (PDP) and JD Edwards Enterprise system.)
· Create bills of material for new product development and evaluation
· Participate in forensic analysis & root cause determination
· Write technical descriptions and specifications
· Maintain currency with advances in surge protection technology
· Ability to manage projects and coordinate activities with testing laboratories
· Assist engineering personnel with difficult troubleshooting problems at component and circuit level, both electrical and electronic
· Coordinates with other departments regarding resources, training, testing and information necessary to introduce new products and improve existing products
· Inspect and approve new revisions to the printed circuit boards
· Find alternate vendors and parts for obsolete electronic parts

Desired profile

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Experience in Electrical, electronic & mechanical design of surge protection and associated equipment
·  Background in electrical power systems, industrial power electronics & power design
·  Product knowledge – Listed and Component type Surge Protective Devices (SPDs)
·  Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
·  Software writing, CAD design and PCB (printed circuit board) design preferred

Education and Experience:

·  BS Electrical or Electronic Engineering Degree
·  3+ years related design experience
·  1 year of experience working with surge protection components (MOVs-Metal Oxide Varistor, Transorbs, Gas Tubes)
·  At least 1 year electrical/electronic manufacturing experience
·  Background in industrial, military, utility, or aerospace power electronics preferred
