As an intern in the Bioinformatics and Exploratory Data Analysis group (BEDA), located in Basel, you will work in close collaboration with scientists in Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) using state-of-the-art bioinformatics and biostatistics tools and methods. The main focus of this bioinformatics position is the implementation of a pipeline for the annotation of genesets (signatures) in the context of gene expression analysis.

DURING YOUR INTERNSHIP YOUR TASKS WILL INCLUDE:

·  Evaluate methods for automation of signature annotation , e.g. text mining or natural language processing methods
·  Build or identify a database of a standard vocabulary for what constitute cell or tissue types, biological processes and signaling pathways
·  Develop a pipeline for automatic annotation of signatures typically used in gene expression analysis (e.g. inclusive of but not limited to MSigDB)
·  Develop a meta-scoring analysis approach for scoring groups of signatures representing the same pathway and/or cell type

You are an enrolled Master student in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biotechnology, Mathematics or Engineering who is looking for a meaningful internship in a professional environment. You are highly self-motivated, passionate about working in a multinational company and you have good programming skills.

FURTHERMORE, YOU HAVE:

·  Good knowledge of R, Python or at least one programming language in the UNIX Environment
·  Good communication skills in English
·  Experience with text mining or language processing methods is an Advantage
·  Experience with gene expression analysis, especially geneset enrichment analysis (GSEA or similar), is also an Advantage
·  Knowledge of biology (e.g. familiarity with biological experiment systems) is a plus
