Student Internship in Bioinformatics and Exploratory Data Analysis (6 months)

As an intern in the Bioinformatics and Exploratory Data Analysis group (BEDA), located in Basel, you will work in close collaboration with scientists in Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) using state-of-the-art bioinformatics and biostatistics tools and methods. The main focus of this bioinformatics position is the implementation of a pipeline to process and analyse metagenomics/microbiomics data in the context of pharmaceutical research.

During your internship your tasks will include:

·  Evaluate tools and methods for meta-genomics analysis
·  Develope a channel to process meta-genomics data
·  Pursing data management
·  Visualization of meta-genomics data
·  Data mining of public and internal microbiomics data

You are an enrolled student in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or a related field who is looking for a meaningful internship in a professional environment. You are highly self-motivated, passionate about working in a multinational company and you have good programming skills.

Furthermore, you have:

·  Proficiency in working with bioinformatics tools and methods
·  Good knowledge of Python, R or at least one programming language
·  Good communication skills in English
·  Experience in meta-genomics/microbiomics data analysis is beneficial
·  Basic knowledge in biological sciences is a plus

The preferred starting date is May 2018 or upon availability.

Application need to include a CV and a motivation letter. Due to regulations non-EU/EFTA citizens have to provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory as part of the application documents.
