Scientific Software Developer - Research Lab Automation

The Roche Pharma Research and Early Development Informatics team is the bridge between digital technology and science. We help drive medical innovation and are integral to the realization of truly Personalized Healthcare and the development of innovative treatments for patients.

We are shaping the digitization of Pharma R&D at Roche, and we are growing. We need innovative, dedicated people from a wide variety of backgrounds as we realize our vision.

Currently, we are looking for Research Informatics talent with expertise in automating laboratory workflows and decision making to join us in driving an innovative strategy for the digital transformation of research for patients.

The Position:

·  You will be a key contributor to our strategic initiative on the digitalization of research, with a focus on automating laboratory processes and decision-making by applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) methods
·  You will design, develop and implement smart and user-friendly software solutions for the advanced automation of modern research labs and their workflows in collaboration with scientists, and will work to optimize the solutions towards higher performance, robustness, and scalability
·  You collaborate with scientists and other teams to establish and maintain the common guidelines and frameworks to efficiently support the data-processing and data-loading from the Lab-instruments up to the foundational systems and Data Warehouses
·  You are shaping and implementing methods like Machine Learning and Deep Learning and advance our state-of-the-art application landscape by integrating AI capabilities into standardized workflows to support complex research activities
·  You continuously learn new things and look into new technologies to keep yourself up-to-date with new trends, in particular in the quickly evolving field of Lab Automation, robotics and sensors in combination with modern software engineering concepts
·  You take on technical project management responsibilities for the delivery of lab solutions and the evaluation of commercial as well as open-source software solutions for small- and large molecule research, making sure they adhere to the overall Research Informatics Architecture and Standards

We are looking for a highly motivated person with a Bachelor or a Master degree in Computer Science, Cheminformatics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Engineering and a strong interest in Pharma and Medicine. If you also bring the set of skills and expertise listed below with you, we are looking forward to receiving your application.

·  Very good programming skills (Java, Python, JavaScript, REST, R) and experience with ML/DL frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras
·  Deep knowledge of and experience in relational and non-relational database systems
·  Experience in agile software development methodologies and technical project management
·  Broad experience with laboratory instruments and data exchange standards such as SiLA or frameworks like Allotrope
·  Experience working in a regulatory environment is beneficial
·  Excellent communication skills verbal and written in English
