Oligonucleotide Development Laboratory Scientist in Process Chemistry & Catalysis

Behind every product sold by Roche is the strong involvement of Pharma Global Technical Operations (PT). Starting with Phase I of the clinical development process and continuing through to product maturity, PT makes medicines at sites around the world and includes more than 12000 employees worldwide.

Global Technical Development (PTD) is an organization within PT of over two thousand people globally that are integral for the mission of Roche to develop new, efficacious medicines for patients. Therefore, PTD actively collaborates and develops innovative technical solutions to bridge early-stage, late-stage and commercial product needs. The mandate of this unit is to reliably deliver the pipeline and supply quality products to patients. The unit excels in its work through innovation, collaboration, dedication, and mutual respect and adds value every day, continuously improving what it does.

Small Molecules Technical Development (PTDC) within the PTD unit brings a broad range of experience across drug substance (DS), drug product (DP) and analytical sciences, and collaborates closely with key partners in the departments Research and Early Development (pRED / gRED), commercial manufacturing (PTC) and PTD. PTDC is responsible for late stage technical development of our small molecules pipeline and manufacture of DS and DP for clinical studies.

As an oligonucleotide development laboratory scientist you will be working in the Process Chemistry & Catalysis department within the Small Molecules Technical Development (PTDC) organization in a team of enthusiastic people. You will design and develop robust and cost effective processes to enable reliable delivery of our oligonucleotide portfolio. You will be involved in and contributing to the whole manufacturing process from the solid phase synthesis over concentration and desalting until purification and finally isolation of the drug substance.

Your opportunities and responsibilities:

·  You will develop and optimize the oligonucleotide syntheses to enable transfer of robust and efficient processes to manufacturing
·  You will generate know-how and experience on the downstream processing steps including desalting and isolation stages and routinely perform developed purification processes
·  You will work closely together with chemists and technicians from all internal and external partners to gather the available technical knowledge and facilitate a smooth transfer to the manufacturing plant
·  You will be responsible for the reproducible, safe and environmentally friendly execution of the work as well as the complete, traceable and comprehensible documentation of all results
·  You will support the lab head in the organization of the lab including sourcing and keeping stock of key reagents and chemicals. You will make sure that all lab equipment is correctly maintained and kept up-to-date

Your Qualification:

·  You completed training as a lab technician in an organic synthesis environment. Completed further education (B. Sc. / M. Sc.) is an advantage
·  Preferably you have industrial experience in the field of oligonucleotide development and manufacturing
·  You are proficient in standard preparative lab techniques and have solid knowledge in analytical methods (HPLC, GC, NMR, MS)
·  You are competent and confident in working with automated systems (e.g. lab automation systems, prepHPLC systems). Preferentially, you have experience with the standard software used in oligonucleotide synthesis
·  Preferentially, you have experience with the ultrafiltration/diafiltration technique and you are familiar with the state-of-the-art equipment and materials used for this process. You know and practiced different methods and techniques for isolation (lyophilization, precipitation, spray-drying)
·  You have an exact, diligent and clean style of working and enjoy being in the lab as part of a team. You have the manual dexterity required to work with sophisticated automation equipment
·  Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing in English and German
