Job description

  Job facts

We are looking for an Associate Scientist or Scientist in the Investigative Toxicology group within the department of Safety Assessment to perform and/or supervise lab-based research around potential toxicity issues related to undesired or exaggerated pharmacology, as well as investigation or characterization of toxicity issues. The scientist will provide independent hypothesis-driven investigation of potential or identified nonclinical and clinical toxicity issues and establish new platforms to enable lead optimization. The scientist will interact closely with discovery scientists, toxicologists, and pathologists to de-convolute toxicology issues and ensure that discovery teams consider all of the appropriate strategic and investigative needs for candidate identification with regard to toxicology issues, thus providing better candidate selection and characterization of toxicology issues at the time of transition to early development. Additionally, the investigative toxicologist will provide strategies and support activities for toxicity issues identified in later stages of the development process.

To achieve this, the scientist will be involved in establishing, qualifying, and implementing innovative, novel, and state-of-the-art technologies / platforms to support Safety Assessment including:

·  3D and microphysiological systems (e.g. organ-on-a-chip)
·  Complex genomic and transcriptomic profiling
·  Gene editing and advanced molecular biology techniques
·  iPSC-derived cell models
·  Live-cell and high-content imaging
·  Identifying and characterizing novel safety-related biomarkers

This position includes both laboratory-based work as well as supervision and training of technical staff as necessary; strong skills in cell- and molecular biology and/or in vitro assays are required.

Who You Are:

PhD and/or post-doctorate or equivalent experience in immunology, pharmacology, cellular or molecular biology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, or related field are required; 0-3 years relevant experience for associate scientist or 3-5 years relevant experience for scientist in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO industry related to toxicology are desired. Demonstrated skills in development and application of new assays/technologies as well as experience with flowcytometry, next-generation sequencing, molecular biology, iPSC-derived cells, high-content imaging, bioinformatics, and/or statistical analysis are preferred. The scientist must have strong hypothesis driven research skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
