Job description
Collaborate with persons / teams representing system administrators, networking engineers, facilities engineers, hardware vendors to ensure the security and efficiency of data center server/network
· Identify, track, schedule and carry out physical IT hardware installation, replacement, firmware upgrades and preventive maintenance to ensure efficient operations
· Monitor hardware to ensure up time and efficient resolution of issues. Provide input and ideas that will improve up time.
· Assist senior level engineers in designing/modifying network systems and application infrastructure
· Develop standards and procedures for carrying out systems operations
· Responsible to obtain service for repair of damaged or faulty equipment and devices
· Maintain records of physical system upgrades and modifications and present reports to superiors
· Oversee the running of data & network cables during the installation of new equipment as well as modifications to existing equipment
· Maintain accurate inventory of work tools, equipment, and devices
· Ensure work operations comply with all local, state, and federal regulations on information/data management
· Respond to hardware & data center environmental issues. Prepare post mortems and drive action items.
· Education and Training: The following are preferred, minimum of a 2 year degree in IT Systems or a minimum of 3 years experience in this field. A degree in IT Infrastructure/Systems or engineering technology or related degree is a plus.
· IT Skill: Working knowledge of at least 3 of these areas, servers, network switches, routers, monitors, electric power systems, datacenter cooling and various other specialized data center environmental equipment. Familiarity with IBM Z, IBM pSeries, Intel, tape libraries, storage, network front end hardware is a plus.
· Communication Skill: Fluent in English (verbal and written). Able to understand and explain complex technical and process details related to data center activities
· Troubleshooting Skill: Knowledgeable in the methods and techniques that are used in conducting tests to identify and fix faults in the data center infrastructure
