Job description

Role Purpose (overall high level summary of the role)

HSBC's Global Research business has a requirement for a Forensic Accountant, a newly created role which will sit within the Environmental and Social Governance team. The Forensic Accountant will be responsible for producing original, commercially-relevant research and thought-leadership articles, for use in Global Research publications and shared with other internal and external stakeholders (e.g Corporate and Institutional clients).

Principle Accountabilities: Key Activities and decision making areas

The jobholder will have the following key responsibilities:

· Provide forensic accounting expertise for assigned areas of responsibility.
· To provide best in class independent and insightful research to our clients
· Demonstrate unique and proprietary analysis in order to identify the best opportunities for clients based on their investing requirements and risk tolerances. Utilise robust quantitative, strategic and sensitivity analysis when analysing our coverage universe.

· Institutional and Corporate Clients
· Internal Sales teams
· Other stakeholders within HSBC

Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)

The Forensic Accountant will be expected to work very closely with their immediate Research Analyst colleagues, generating and publishing original and actionable research content which is fit for client presentation. It is expected that the reports and research papers which the Forensic Accountant will generate with their specialised knowledge will compliment the wider range of Research products which we offer to our client group.

The holder of the position will need to satisfy HSBC standards and operational requirements, appropriate for the Global Career Band.

Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)

Responsible for the continual assessment of operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring and the impact of new technology.

Demonstrates compliance with HSBC Bank plc Group standards, manuals and policies and adheres to the defined work practices, internal controls and risk management standards associated with the role.

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)

Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business activities associated with the role, specifically HSBC Bank plc internal controls and compliance policies and manuals

Desired profile

Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications (For the role – not the role holder. Minimum requirements of the role.)

·  Demonstrable Forensic Accounting experience is essential
·  Knowledge and experience of the Investment Banking industry
·  Ability to write clearly and convey sometimes complex material in an accessible manner for readers
·  Ability to work well in a team; ability to contribute flexibly in a dynamic workplace environment
·  Excellent report writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
