Role purpose

Support the daily operations of both the Equities and DCS business’s within “HSCI”, HSBC Securities and Capital Markets (India) Private Limited, ensuring effective partnership with Front Office,  Support Control and Infrastructure functions.

Ensure the business is compliant with current regulations and evolving regulatory reforms and operates in line with the group’s standards on Risk, Control and Conduct,

The role will have a local reporting line and functionally into the Equities COO and Head of Equities NFR for the Asia Pacific region.

Principle responsibilities

·  Accountable to the Equities COO and Head of Equities NFR, APAC
·  Collaborating with local and regional Business leads, COO’s, NFR, Compliance, Technology, Operations Legal and Finance to shape and progress nascent business, product and/or country-level development initiatives in India onshore and off-shore to onshore
·  Serve as a point-person for regulatory or market changes impacting the Equities and Securities Financing (DCS) business in India. 
·  Lead efforts with our support, control and infrastructure functions to enhance the overall operating platform and business governance processes.
·  Develop and manage the implementation of all Equity Global Markets business and operational plans and priorities, to manage delivery of the agreed strategy.
·  Ensure Front to back oversight of processes within Equities and ensure that the control framework is robust and consistent.
·  Responsible for ensuring strong relationship between Front office and support functions.
·  Compliance with the current regulatory environment and ensuring the business keeps pace with regulatory reform

Key Skills & Experience

·       A good understanding of the front to back processes within Equities & Securities Financing – Cash, Listed Derivatives, Offshore Access products and Derivatives Clearing Services.

·       Effective in the continuously evolving control framework within Global Markets.

·       Ability to engage and influence senior business and functional stakeholders.

·       COO, NFR & Business Management knowledge and experience

·       Understanding of India / Asia /Global market structure.

·       Previous experience working in Global Markets and demonstrable ability to deliver complex projects with multiple stakeholders involved.

·       Strong knowledge of regulatory landscape and resulting control frameworks

·       Has strong understanding of NFR, Controls, Conduct and Operational Risk

·       Ability to establish strong relationships with internal and external clients.

·       Ability to challenge constructively and effect change.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Strong analytical skills required to perform in depth review of impact to existing business.

·       Able to lead and influence various groups (Sales, Ops, Tech, Finance, Client Service) and stakeholders to achieve desired outcome

·       Communicates effectively to update senior management of progress and problems

·       Process thinker, with ability to design / engineer efficient processes, and create efficient STP work flow

·       Solutions oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and problem solving skills. Able to set priorities in a resource constrained environment dealing with multiple stakeholders,

·       Flexible with good time management; can carry out a number of different tasks concurrently

Risk Management

·  In  conjunction with Control teams and risk stewards be responsible for the overall framework and governance structures relating to Operational Risk, Control, Conduct and Global standards.
·  Ensure that the business is compliant with established bank procedures and external regulation – or has a clearly articulate remediation plan in place if gaps occur.
·  Manages and coordinates the remediation of identified issues (e.g. audit issues, self-identified issues, operational incidents).
·  Drive solutions with internal support teams to reduce operation risk and develop a strong ‘lessons learned’ culture.
·  Ensure adequate processes and procedures are in place for Business Continuity
·  Ensure strong relationships with all second line of defense functions and specifically mange the objectives and interactions of the business with Finance, Operations, Risk (Market and Credit), Technology, Compliance, HR, Legal, Audit, Control Office and Communications.
·  Contribute to establishing and maintaining a robust and efficient control environment for the Business, together with early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise.

·  Contribute - together with Asia Head of NFR & Regional  Equities COO - to the implementation and oversight of product and regional policy and governance frameworks, procedures, controls and standards to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance.

Strategy and Business Development

·       Responsible for supporting the growth and sustainability of the business by: -

·       Working in conjunction with the COO and management team to maintain/refresh the business vision and develop the Medium Term Outlook strategy of the business.  Ensure this is cascaded and replicated through business lines

·       Defining, implementing and overseeing operations of Equity led programs, including tracking of achievement/deviation to plan against targets, and implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and Key Risk Indicators (KRI’s).

·       Commercial: Focus on contributing towards commercial goals and objectives at regional and global level; actively contributing to strategic plans (new products, infrastructure development, new clients,)

·       Management Information: support the development, implementation and maintenance of a global management information, analysis and reporting framework that supports and informs timely and effective strategy management and decision making at all levels

Change Management

·  Central coordination and leadership of regulatory and control initiatives, ensuring cross-regional coordination and providing conflict resolution where necessary.
·  Work with the Global Regulatory Change team to ensure change is understood and successfully passed into business as usual processes
·  Ensuring that Global Market Senior Management are notified of any actions, decisions or issues that may have a material impact, whether globally or regionally.
·  Defines, implements and oversees policies and key operating procedures as a basis for the business operational set-up, including front-to-back strategy and alignment of the platform.
·  Drive continuous improvement of the business lifecycle, including systems, processes, and operational infrastructure
·  Drives collaboration and a trust-based relationship within Equities and across HSBC’s business divisions and infrastructure units.

Operational Effectiveness

·  Contribute to streamlining the Platform infrastructure and automate process from Front to Back
·  Contribute to the continuing development, implementation and improvement of the processes, capabilities/capacity and infrastructure needed to deliver strategy goals
·  Proactively engage with all stakeholders across Business and Functions to understand requirements and identify opportunities to drive consistency and efficiency

Financial Management

·  Apply continuous oversight on the financial performance of the business, identifying opportunities to enhance revenue growth and optimize the cost base.
·  Work with the CFO to create impactful MI around scorecards business commentaries
·  Ensure strong cost controls are in place over direct costs and vendor management.

Requirements

Minimum Graduation or as required for the role, whichever is higher
