Role Description  

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter to join our successful Legal Protection business. Working as part of a close-knit team in north Bristol, we offer a great environment to support and nurture personal and technical development, including participation in our award winning Excellence in Technical underwriting academy.

No risk is the same, so you’ll need to use your analytical and communication skills, as well as technical knowledge to profitably steer our portfolio, ensure customer satisfaction and develop strong trading relationships.

 

About You

 

Applications would be preferred from candidates with insurance industry experience. There is an expectation that a successful candidate will be in the Bristol office with the team a minimum of 1 day a week.

 

You will play an active role in supporting our team to manage our legal protection portfolio in terms of growth and profitability through portfolio steering, product design, pricing and underwriting new risks and the creation and management of policy documentation.

 

 We are looking for an assistant underwriter who can  assist with proactively managing a portfolio of risks across a broad spectrum of Legal Expenses products and who is capable of forging strong business relationships with our customers.

 

 

  Key Responsibilities:

 

·  Providing excellent service to our customers
·  Active management of pricing and performance activity across the legal expenses portfolio providing accurate, timely and actionable business information using range of systems and software to develop business relationships with key clients
·  To achieve agreed financial and operational performance targets
·  Offering feedback and insight about our products to assist in their development and maintenance to collaborate strongly with other departments to achieve the Company's goals in respect of service delivery
·  Providing technical input to policy wordings and supporting documentation. Adding insight to ensure that these important customer documents keep pace with legal developments and customer’s needs. Organising, maintaining and deploying our wordings

 

Skills & Experience:

 

·  Experience in underwriting legal expenses or commercial insurance is desired.
·  Excellent relationship management skills.
·  Practical knowledge of MS Office and MS Outlook.
·  Excellent numerical and verbal reasoning skills.
·  Good verbal influencing and trading skills.
·  An understanding of the general insurance market
·  GCSE Maths and English or relevant equivalent experience
·  Taking initiative and being proactive within a team
·  Good verbal and written communication skills
·  Attention to detail and strong analytical and decision making skills
·  Passionate about your own development, so commitment to progressing towards internal and CII qualifications is necessary for working within this technical team
·  Ability to multi task at pace and the ability to work hard on own initiative and be achievement oriented.
·  Able to organise own workload to meet tight deadlines and support the team in delivering excellent service levels.
·  A good team player. Supportive to others with an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
·  Resilient and adaptable to change.
