Job description

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:
Coordinates the team activities to achieve plant safety, quality and production goals. Facilitates teamwork and helps build an effective work relationship with other shifts. Supports members in team coordinator roles, helps resolve operational and personnel issues, supports the training certification process and resolves staffing resource issues. Position is responsible for other key activities including daily production issues, line efficiency improvements, communicating and enforcing policy and procedural compliance and assuring effective use of temporary labour.

JOB SUMMARY:
· Process / Operation
· Start Up / Shutdown Procedure
· Oversees the safe and efficient start-up and shutdown of the factory
· Material Availability
· Ensures the upstream Batch System (Storage tanks etc.) is set-up with correct ingredients and quantity to meet the production plan.
· Checks Tank/Hopper levels to ensure sufficient product and communicates with manufacturing team.
· Oversees material request via SAP and ensures team obtains materials from storage areas and notifies the relevant personnel if material is not available.
· Ensures SRV’s are completed at end of production order and material is returned to Warehouse.
· Operation
· Ensures that machinery and equipment in area of responsibility is operated, maintained and changed over efficiently as per SOP.
· Controls, Monitors and records waste and re-work.
· Monitor SAP Production Schedule, Bulk Plans and MIS systems to follow through production plan and co-ordinates changeovers with the broader team.
· Assists Manufacturing Operators on the Batch Management System based on the production plan, by monitoring plant on system.
· Co-ordinates variant. Size change overs.
· Leads WCM Autonomous Maintenance tasks up to and including AM Step 7 (Full self-management).
· Regularly walks his/her lines to inspect and sorts out or report any issues needing attention.
· Basic appreciation of manufacturing and product properties
· Engineering
· Drives development of operators to perform autonomous maintenance and inspection tasks equipment as per schedule including minor maintenance (i.e. replacing belts, chains, hoses, covers, knives etc.)
· Ensure participation of operators in PPM
· Drives the EWO process when line downtime is experienced
· Problem Solving and Decision Making
· Initiates and leads problem solving in his team using structured problem solving techniques and proposes continuous improvements. (e.g. kaizens, ticksheets , etc.)
· Administration
· Records and reports equipment stoppages and breakdowns or other non-conformance’s for troubleshooting discussions with team members and hand over purposes.
· Is responsible for ensuring the team is recording and displaying information relating to team and line on performance boards (Performance, Quality, and Improvements etc.)
· Does hourly plant monitoring and completes shift handovers.
· Issues Permits for all minor work in the respective area and ensure plant is safe to do so.
· Reviews Batch reports, and takes corrective actions.
· Performs all related WCM activities and ensure teams captures tag on SAP
· Ensure that all TK (Time Keeper) entries is up to date for team
· Manages the 40 hour OT legal limit for overtime worked
· Manages the training needs analysis and training plan for the team
· Leadership and Relationships
· Organises and briefs team on production plan for the day.
· Co-ordinates changeovers with the Line and Manufacturing teams.
· Promotes a healthy working relationship with the cross functional teams
· Escalates problems pro-actively to the Unit Manager/ Plant Manager
· SHE
· Adheres to Company emergency procedures, safety rules and regulations and eliminates potential SHE hazards in work area.
· Performs behavioral safety observations and corrects unsafe behavior.
· Issues Permits for all minor work in the respective area and ensure plant is safe to do so.
· Conducts risk assessments and guarding surveys.
· Review SOP’s and ensures all PJO’s is up to date for the team through a PJO matrix
· Participates in the site SBO program and drives team members to ensure SBO targets are met
· Ensure that the medical compliance of all team members is up to date
· Always ensures that team members are adequately trained before operating machinery.
· Coaches and responsible for the activities of the SHE Rep on shift
· Quality
· Monitors and ensure 100% CRQS compliance for shift
· Escalate defect quality checks of process material, and finished products as per quality standard and takes appropriate action when process parameters are exceeded (e.g. stops the line).
· Completes CAR’s and Customer complaints for respective shift, and implements corrective measures thereof
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
· Matric AND National Diploma Operations Management or Engineering or equivalent
· 3 years relevant Management/ Supervisor experience in FMCG/ Manufacturing environment
· Solid leadership, management and development experience of large teams
· Basic appreciation in specific plant engineering skills
· Working knowledge of TPM/WCM principles (AM and Problem Solving Skills)
· Working knowledge of OHS act and lockout procedures Working Knowledge of PC Skills Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
· (Word , Excel , Power Point , Outlook , CRQS, SAP, QM, RS Batch, SCADA etc.)
· Communication skills (verbal & written)
