Poste et missions:
One of the major objective of DMPK is to uses both in vitro and preclinical data to predict and/or understand the pharmacokinetics of our future drug in human and to anticipate its clinical use in patients. For that purpose, the combination of the parameters coming from those tools has to be performed within a mathematical framework mimicking the physiology of the body ; the well-known Physiologically Based PharmacoKinetic (PBPK) approach.
UCB is working in that area for a while with people developing in vitro/preclinical tools and a couple of dedicated software (GastroPlus and Simcyp). And the use of those tools is increasing to answer to questions raised in the project teams, i.e. human PK and DDI predictions. Recently, the publication of Guidance from both EMA and FDA illustrated the key role of these tools and that approach to document our understanding of the drug, to anticipate the potential DDI risks and to justify the labelling. Key points for these purposes are the in vitro skills and the use of the in vitro in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE).
Profil:
The ideal candidate will have a background in some form of PK/PD modelling, under any of its various names of PK or PBPK modelling, systems pharmacology or systems biology. Typically this is required to PhD standard although Masters qualifications may be acceptable where the subject matter is closely-aligned with the subjects above. The candidate must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, having evidence of significant interactions with non-quantitative fields (for example, the laboratory staff they have been working alongside). They should have an interest in working in the pharmaceutical industry; however, prior industry experience is not necessary. Indeed, this VIE would provide an ideal opportunity for a candidate wishing to obtain their first industry experience.

Make every future a success.
