The Role

The Associate Manager of Production Planning will define the Production Planning function for Tesla’s Buffalo, NY factory; Gigafactory 2.

Responsibilities:

Setting the production plans for a rapid increasing production process at Gigafactory 2.

Establishing production planning processes for Gigafactory 2 and a cadence of related reviews & communication with management for Production, and support functions including Purchasing, Material Planning, and Logistics

Responding to issues that put the production plan at risk

Define capacity roadmap for Gigafactory 2 by production line.

Represent Production in the Sales & Operation planning process for Tesla Energy

Ability to assist hiring and shaping a team of production planners, to scale with Gigafactory 2’s production.

Facilitate conversations between functions on how to meet production goals and respond to unforeseen downtime.

Communicating plans, plan revisions, and production vs. plan to all Manufacturing, support, and business stakeholders.

Desired profile

Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering/Operations Research, Engineering or Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability.

5+ years related experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, production planning/control or a related field (materials management)

At least 2 years’ experience as a people manager

Experience with business process/design, process improvements, and change management, preferably in a manufacturing or supply-chain environment

Perspective on skills needed to succeed as a production planner and comfort with/interest in hiring and coaching planners

Familiarity with reporting & the visual display of information and an interest in directing the development and improvement of operational reporting.

Familiarity with specific reporting & visualization tools such as Tableau is desired

Analytical skills for tasks such as optimizing production shift schedules and inventory levels for components fabricated in house (Proficiency in MS Excel including advanced excel skills or an inclination to learn and teach them is desired.)

Good organizational and project management skills (Role involves managing multiple complex projects at the same time.

Ability & willingness to drive progress and improvements while facing shifting goals & timelines

Open-minded, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude

Enthusiasm for Tesla, clean energy, and a desire to change the way the world is powered
