Job description

About The Job

Our stores supply our customers, and our distribution centres supply our stores. Without them, they'd be no products on our shelves. So Retail Distribution is critical to the success of Tesco. It's fast, efficient and non-stop. So grab a seat, strap yourself in and get ready to join the UK's biggest distribution network.

You need to love overcoming obstacles, delivering change and increasing efficiencies. You also need to be unfazed at the idea of working with innovations that enable us to deliver a staggering 2.4 billion cases of stock every year.

· If you added up the number of miles in a year that our customers travel to our stores, it'd be the same as circumnavigating the earth 7,800 times
· Any one of our 26 distribution centres, 750 products are picked every second
· The floor space of our distribution centres totals 11.5 million sq. ft that's enough to fill Wembley 10 times over.

Main Responsibilities

You get hands-on distribution centre experience across 1-2 years - and constant guidance from people who already know the ropes. So in no time you should be getting to grips with the basics of running a centre, such as leading teams, managing stock, launching new products, and setting and maintaining best-in-class standards.

Involved with the full 24-hour operation, you ll be managing a team overnight. Then, once you ve got the hang of motivating others and meeting targets, we start preparing you for a Lead Manager role. This involves:

· Training you in different centres to gain broader experience
· Constant support and development sessions run by experienced managers
· Store Managers and People Managers on hand to stretch and guide you by the day
· Graduate development days that let you learn, network and share experiences with your peers.

Our business was built with a simple mission to be the champion for customers, helping them to enjoy a better quality of life and an easier way of living. This hasn t changed. Customers want great products at great value which they can buy easily and it s our job to deliver this in the right way for them.

That s why we ve chosen Serving Britain s shoppers a little better every day as our new core purpose. As a business, serving customers is at the heart of everything we do from colleagues in our stores to those of us in supporting roles.

In the UK, we serve some 66 shoppers every second, so it s our goal to ensure every one of those customers experiences just a little better service on each visit.
