Process Development Chemist

Job description

Technology Solutions is the global leader in specialty mining reagents, phosphine-based chemicals and UV stabilization technology. We are also a major player in phosphorus derivatives.

Responsibilities:

· Carry out organic synthesis reactions and process development work for new products
· Work with manufacturing on scaling-up new chemistries and processes
· Support manufacturing with troubleshooting new products production.
· Design and conduct organic synthesis experiments using scientific and statistical tools such as Design of Experiments
· Design and conduct experiments for process development of new products
· Develop technology transfer packages for new products
· Plant assistance for new products
· Work in a team environment and coach junior chemists
· Travel to manufacturing sites as needed
· 5-10 % of travel required

Safety Responsibilities:

· Understand and follow key Solvay safety policies and procedures for the site, including but not limited to the following:

o Emergency Response / Evacuation Guidelines

o Visitor Safety Policy

o Housekeeping

· Demonstrate a commitment to safety
· Attend monthly safety training
· Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation.
· Obtain equipment or process specific safety training as necessary according to the specific hazards

Physical Requirements:

· Position requires hands-on work in the laboratory as well as computer work so standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time might be needed

Qualifications:

· B.S. or MS. in Chemistry with emphasis on organic synthesis
· Industrial Experience of 2+ years in scale-up of new chemistries
· Hands-on lab skills are required
· Working knowledge on phosphorus and/or sulfur based chemistries, and/or polymer synthesis
· Experience in characterization techniques such as GC-MS, FTIR, NMR, LC/MS are highly desirable.
· Knowledge of mathematics or statistics is a nice to have.
· Creative problem solving skills
· Excellent writing and presentation skills
· Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
· Expertise in six sigma methodologies
· 5-10 % of travel required
· Well-organized and completes tasks on time
· Work and communicate effectively in multidisciplinary teams
· Advance computer software skills
