Job Overview and Responsibilities:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This position is a multi-craft position with emphasis areas.  The successful candidate will be required to work, independently and in partnership with other staff members, on general mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and utility operation tasks.  An on the job and off site training program will be available to support these required activities.

Emphasis areas include monitoring, inspection and repairing of process equipment and utilities.

HSE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Fully participate in plant health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) initiatives.

2.Complete live and computer based training to comply with HS&E requirements and policies

3.Attend required daily and monthly safety meetings

4.Attend required monthly departmental meetings

5.Completely understand and follow plant life critical procedures

6.Utilize appropriate PPE based on the job task

7.Maintain high standard of housekeeping.

8.Inspect and test equipment prior to turn over to production

9.Generator and handler of hazardous and universal waste—responsible for container labeling and marking and may collect samples to assist with characterization of waste

10.And other responsibilities as outlined in HSE-056

VI.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

THE FOLLOWING IS INTENDED TO DESCRIBE THE GENERAL, ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS JOB.IT IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A COMPLETE STATEMENT OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, OR REQUIREMENTS.

General

1.Test fabricated and installed equipment to ensure adequacy of repair and safe operation upon commissioning

2.Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

3.Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power bender, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment.

4.Lift and rig equipment and piping

5.Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair equipment, and fixtures.

6.Operate fork lift to transport work or maneuver equipment as necessary

7.Operate man lift or ladder to safety position self at a height to complete a task

8.Attend daily meeting to receive and discuss work orders that include dismantling, repair, or changing of pipes, valves, process equipment, structures, etc.

9.Coordinate repairs with production to ensure work site has been prepared to avoid interfering with activities of other workers

10.Verify proper life critical documentation is prepared prior to the start of work

11.Inspect work site to determine best possible placement and routing of equipment and pipelines to allow long-term maintainability

12.Analyze problems to determine materials needed to complete task and transports materials to job site

13.Remove product from dismantled equipment by washing surfaces prior to transport

14.Perform housekeeping within areas of responsibility, both in the field and in the shop

15.Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) according to specific job task

16.Perform painting inside the production areas, and inside office areas as directed.

17.Operate company vehicles safely both within the plant perimeter and on the road.

18.Operate forklift trucks in a safe manner to transport work or maneuver equipment as necessary

19.Assist in maintaining correct MRO inventory control by signing out material used in jobs.

20.Perform demolition work on pipe and equipment that has been taken out of service.

21.Perform other duties or projects as specified by supervisor

22.Design, fabricate and install foundations and support for rotating equipment

23.Install, using all appropriate techniques, all types of rotating equipment to the highest industry and Solvay standards

24.Rebuild all types of rotating equipment back to original condition meeting all of the original equipment manufactures standards and specifications

25.Accurately align shafts to the accepted industry standards for excellence, using laser alignment equipment

26.Accurately diagnose and correct rotating equipment problems with minimal information

27.Safely replace small (25 hp or less) 220/480V motors

28.Assemble and install a variety of rotating and other equipment; may use big and small cranes, chain fall, or come-a-long to position work

29.Perform some of the duties of awelder , such asarc welding ,mig welding andoxyacetylene cutting

30.Perform related metal working tasks as required to manufacture supports, shields, etc., needed for safe, reliable repairs and installation of rotating equipment

31.Perform related metal working tasks such as thermal cutting, plasma cutting, and grinding

32.Position and clamp components of fabricated metal products in preparation for welding

33.Assemble and install a variety of pipe, tube, and equipment; may use big and small cranes, chain fall, or come-a-long to position work

34.Assemble pipe using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints and hand tools

35.Secure pipe to structure using brackets, clamps, and hangers

36.Cut pipe and steel using saw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, or pipe cutting / threading machine

37.Bend and install instrumentation stainless steel tubing

38.Follow applicable specifications, particularly piping and welding specifications, such that piping is installed to standard

39.Proficient in the operations, general maintenance and capable or maintaining controls within prescribed limits for plant utility equipment, including but not limited to: boilers / deaerator, air compressors, water softeners, water dealkylizers, cooling towers, chlorine dioxide system

40.Monitor and maintain water treatment chemistry of boiler feed water system, boilers, cooling towers, and chlorine dioxide system within desired control ranges.Proactively monitor condition of associated equipment to maintain the highest level of operational availability (reliability).

41.Perform work to free blockages within closed systems, such as cooling water piping and waste lines.

42.Perform periodic inspections, including but not limited to: Eye wash & safety showers inspections, Alarms and other alarms, emergency exit light and sign testing, and other miscellaneous safety inspections

43.Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: pump lubrication, routine fluid checks, heat transfer equipment de-scaling (i.e. Ryd-Lyming), filter replacement, etc.

44.Perform basic mechanical work, including but not limited to: strainer / filter cleaning, fuse replacement/resetting breakers, belt replacement, replacement of valves / piping / gaskets “in kind” following applicable standards, hose and hose reel repairs, resetting circuit breakers, etc.. R.

45.Perform related general facility maintenance, including but not limited to:Snow removal, painting, air and water filter replacement, light bulb replacement, piping and equipment demolition, and other general work including housekeeping activities and HVAC maintenance

46.Assist in the MRO store room by receiving goods, notifying requisitioner, staging materials, stocking shelves, and maintaining housekeeping.

47.Operate company vehicles safely while picking up supplies off site.

48.Assist craftspeople (Solvay or contract) to successfully complete assigned tasks.

Education and Experience:

Education:High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience:
1.7+ years in construction or maintenance in an industrial setting
2.5+ years experience in an emphasis area

2.Successful completion of the Solvay, Blue Island Maintenance Technician Competency list including any hands-on skill tests
3.Must be able to calculate surfaces, volumes, weights, and measures

5.Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form
6.Must be able to read and interpret a variety of diagrams, blueprints, and operational manuals of shop tools and equipment
7.Must be able to solve practical problems using rational logic and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
8.Must be able to perform basic math using application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions with algebra and geometric constructions
9.Must be able to document activities such as work completed or inspection observations on forms or work orders using legible handwriting and understandable verbiage
10.Must be able to utilize the computer to process work orders and order supplies from store room
11.Must understand and comply with all permit requirement scenarios and be able to perform all functions required for permitting including, but not limited to:
a.clearing equipment
b.preparing equipment for work
c.performing lock out / tag out / check
d.generating the permit including identification of proper personnel to review and sign
e.Initial line break
12.Understand when to stop and ask for directions.
13.Understand when and how to report incidents/accidents.
14.Must be able to read/understand Piping and Instrumentation Drawings in order to identify flows and equipment.
15.Must be able to perform basic math using application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions with algebra and geometric constructions
16.Must be able to perform all tasks in a safe manner, leading to “world class” results.
17.Must be able to read and understand safety rules, company policies and procedure manuals.
18.Must be able to solve practical problems using rational logic and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
19.Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form

23.Must be able to utilize the computer to process work orders and order supplies from store room.  Must be able to navigate file server to find drawings, spec sheets, and other information related to the work requirements.  Must be familiar with email, spreadsheets, and PDF file formats.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS required to perform the essential duties of this job:

1.Valid driver’s license.
2.Fork lift operator certificate.
3.Scissor lift and Aerial Work Platform operator certificate.
