Job description



We are currently looking for a Project Buyer to join our Siemens Mobility Customer Services Project Procurement team. The Procurement department’s mission is to ensure that procurement processes covering planning, sourcing and project management are robustly applied to our business for both existing train fleets and new bids/projects in order to reduce cost and manage risk. Spend with third party suppliers is typically between 50-60% of the business turnover.

As a Project Buyer, you will play a major role in ensuring that the UK’s rail network provides the best possible services to passengers. You will support the delivery of our train maintenance projects across the UK through the management of supplier performance. Cross-functional collaboration and communication are key to ensuring that we have a joined-up approach.

The Challenge

·  Support the Project Procurement Managers in establishing and implementing critical initiatives for nominated project suppliers, acquiring the buy-in of key partners and delivery of these, on time and to budget.
·  Obtain quotes, negotiating the best price and checking up to date lead times from suppliers and updating program/project partners
·  Support Siemens Digitalization and Automation initiatives to make our team and our suppliers more effective
·  Support the development and negotiation of project specific Supplemental / Services Agreements and repair agreements
·  Reduction in supply chain related NCC (Non-Conformance Costs)
·  Identify Supply Chain risks, opportunities and market forces to avoid potential damage or exploit opportunities through tailored risk/opportunity management.
·  Develop effective working relationships with the customer (internal and external).
·  Maintain supplier performance and drive supplier development related activities
·  Manage supplier relationships with nominated suppliers
·  Act as Procurement representative for Projects stakeholders in project review meetings

What do you need to qualify for the role?

·  Someone with a good knowledge of Procurement / Supply Chain activities with a broad solid understanding of operational, commercial and financial activities across a range of businesses or an in-depth knowledge in a business.
·  Previous experience of working in Supply Chain Management
·  Demonstrable relevant experience gained from previous roles in a similar role/environment is desirable
·  Degree/CIPS qualification preferred
·  Experience in use of office tools and MRP systems. SAP skills/experience (preferred)
·  Good planning and organizational skills
·  Good communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills
·  Experience in building rapport with the supply base and our customers
·  Someone who has worked in a multi-national business would be advantageous
