Hardware Field Service Engineer opportunity to provide highly visible, technical support customer to our customers based in France, South Europe, and Africa.


Role Responsibilities: 

  • Provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site installation of linear accelerators and imaging systems, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems.
  • Checks out and approves operational quality of system equipment. Instructs customers in the operation and maintenance of the system.
  • Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
  • Interprets customers’ needs and assists in and facilitates resolution regardless of who job the responsibility falls under.
  • This job may include any aspect of field support, and is not limited to system hardware and software, PCs, and networking/wireless networking Installs and upgrades. This includes support of a wide range of company products according to technical documentation and company guidelines to ensure that customer’s equipment operates properly.
  • Advise customers in ordering spare parts or on service request such as emergency and contractual services to ensure customers can operate their Varian equipment according to technical and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct Acceptance testing, to ensure that all product specifications are met with quality and in a timely manner.
  • Input detailed records of installation and upgrade work performed into company information systems to ensure accurate updated customer installation information is available to other Varian functions.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and safety according to Varian guidelines and customer regulations in order to perform activities under the safest working conditions.
  • Performs parts inventory and ordering for assigned installation, including replenishing spare parts kit, short shipment and return consigned parts per Varian written processes.
  • Provide feedback on product and documentation to improve installation processes. Report by means of FSR’s, time sheets, expense reports, etc. regularly to ensure accurate company statistical data on customer-oriented activities is available.
  • Advise less experienced Installation Representatives in technical matters.
  • Complete all required installation documentation that pertains to the job being completed and update all requested and/or required data for data tracking purposes.
  • Use prescribed problem-resolution escalation procedures and request technical assistance when necessary in a timely manner.


This role will involve travel (up to 70%) to customer sites throughout France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Western Africa.


Skills & Experience Required:  

  • Knowledge of and sound professional experience with electronic and electro-mechanical engineering, testing equipment used for verification, checkout and calibration of electronic equipment. This includes but is not limited to oscilloscopes, digital volt meters, and torque wrenches.
  • Knowledge of and professional technical experience with PC based systems.
  • Customer focused attitude.
  • Articulate and skilled in interpersonal communication.
  • Fluency in French and good level of English language, both written and spoken.
  • Proficient computer usage and debugging skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networks and networking techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of imaging systems.
  • Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, reporting databases.
