Job description

Scope of the position :

This a new role in a newly formed, transversal R&D organization: Scientific & Digital Innovation.

Our organization is responsible for driving large, focused initiatives across Sanofi's vaccines portfolio which employ bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, machine learning, and software engineering to actively discover and develop the next generation of vaccines.

Main responsibilities

·  S/he will have a hands-on role with the analysis of data specifically generated for modeling purposes, as well as data generated from classical interrogation approaches.
·  To this end, s/he will leverage proven ability in building databases, biological data statistical analysis, and their mechanization in creating modeling pipelines to automate our innovative approaches to vaccine design.
·  As data are a resource, and experiments are designed by the Scientific & Digital Innovation group to obtain new data, s/he will be actively cultivated for deeper understanding of the role of machine learning in the interrogation of complex biological and clinical data. S/he will “complete the data journey” by leveraging existing software engineering and data marshalling proficiencies with these deeper machine learning skills.
·  S/he will work across our global R&D staff, and design frameworks first for the “forest” and not the “trees” and thereby help create new economies of scope and efficiency in our R&D organization.
·  S/he will have had hands-on experience covering advanced algorithms, databases, software pipelines, especially those covering biocomputation and bioengineering informatics, as well as essential programming skills (e.g. in SQL, Python, R and the like), experience using LINUX/UNIX, and cloud computing experience (e.g. using AWS, Azure, Google Cloud among others). Familiarity with software engineering best practices, and the utilization of vendor software platforms such as Pipeline Pilot or KNIME is a plus.
·  S/he will work in a centralized team of scientific experts and have the ability to work directly with computational scientists to translate model and analysis prototypes into maintainable, well-organized analytical software pipelines.

Candidate profile :

·  Applicants of any higher education level (undergraduate, masters, PhD) will be considered, with preference given to those with substantial, real-world experience in data acquisition, harmonization, interrogation, and the design/deployment of battle-tested, high-throughput computational frameworks.
·  Ideally s/he will leverage previously acquired industrial experience, and be ready to hit the ground running in a tight knit, fast paced environment that rewards personal initiative, collaboration, and scientific excellence
