EUROPEAN PATENT ATTORNEY / CHEMISTRY

Within the Sanofi Global Intellectual Property Department, as part of a team located in France Paris area and mainly dedicated to the patent support of Sanofi’s Industrial Affairs organization and Sanofi’s Consumer Healthcare Global Business Unit.

Principal Accountabilities :

·  Proactively counsel clients about IP strategy related to their business model objectives, including industrial development services by Sanofi to third party clients,
·  Interact with clients in charge of chemical industrial developments within Sanofi’s Industrial Affairs organization, mainly in France, Hungary and Germany,
·  Drive and analyze prior art & rights searches and perform assessments on validity, non-infringement and patent avoidance of third-party patents (Freedom to Operate),
·  Provide patentability assessment for internal or external projects,
·  Participate in the drafting, reviewing and negotiations of agreements covering intellectual property rights,
·  Prepare, file and prosecute EPO, US and foreign patent applications,
·  Manage post filing and post issuance legal aspects (3rd party observations, oppositions, appeals and litigation).

Required profile :

·  Ability to work transversally within a large Legal & IP team and as a robust business partner of an international industrial network,
·  Graduate degree (engineer, DESS/DEA, Master II or PhD) in chemistry, biochemistry or pharmaceutical science,
·  5-7 years minimum of patent law experience gained in-house or in a law firm,
·  Autonomy in handling drafting and prosecution of patent applications,
·  European Patent Attorney qualification (EQE) with ideally at least 2-3 years post-EQE experience,
·  French Patent Attorney qualification (EQF) would be a plus,
·  Experience in drafting and negotiating IP agreements would be a plus,
·  Experience in handling oppositions and Appeals at EPO, with good advocacy skills, would be a plus,
·  Experience in the pharmaceutical field would be a plus,
·  Fluent in French and English.
