Do you thrive on having access to a state of the art laboratory/pilot technology.? Do you like driving projects and communicating with a broad and international stakeholder landscape ? Then the role as USP team manager – CHO Cell Cultivation process development Scientist could be the right position for you.

About the department

Cell Culture Development is part of the Biologics Development within the Research and Development organization at Sanofi. We are a dedicated team of around 30 highly specialized and experienced employees. As a department we are engaged in final monoclonal cell line selection and design of high yielding, robust & transferrable cell cultivation processes, mainly fed-batch process, for the supply of clinical API and biopharmaceutical products.

Our main tasks are to select the best monoclonal cell line and to design both initial and late stage processes. Those processes are then transferred to our GMP manufacturing international network. Our task is also to develop and document that cell lines and the cell culture process are suitable for up-scaling to internal manufacturing facilities and/or Contract Manufacture Organization (CMO). As part of this development flow we take responsibility for structured, constructive and convincing interactions and dialogues with our colleagues from other functions both locally in Vitry but also globally.

Main responsabilities :

One of your main responsibilities is to outline and execute the development of upstream CHO cell processes for early and late stage projects in close dialogue with your colleagues both in the department and across the organization. In addition, you will establish experimental and data analysis approaches/templates for process development and process characterization and validation, author technical protocols and reports.

The goal is to secure a process of high quality in terms of yield, product quality, robustness and transferability within the deadlines set out by the project.

In order to ensure high quality of the data generated, it is expected that you spend time in the laboratory to help your staff optimizing use of equipment and introducing new technologies. You will take an active part in establishing data management systems for both plates/AMBR automatized systems, waves and benchtop bioreactors.

You are expected to contribute to project execution activities including engaged participation in project planning meetings, task force meetings, preparation of status reports and technology transfer processes.

Background requested :

Ph.D. in biotechnology or biochemistry with at least 2 years industry experience in bioreactor cell culture preferably with CHO cells expression system.

·  Demonstrate ability to initiate/lead innovations, develop best practices and drive for results in a global organization.
·  Foster teamwork and actively participate in the review of projects with colleagues throughout the company and outside business partners.
·  Strong collaboration & communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with partners, customers and collaborators.
·  Excellent verbal and written communicator of ideas, project goals and results to peers and management.
·  Proactive, goal-oriented, positive & social mindset.
·  Experience in process & technology transfer, late stage process development, and process characterization and validation is highly desired.
·  Experience in CHO medium/feeds development, digitalization/data management and LEAN experience are an advantage.
·  Experience in managing laboratory engineer & technicians is an advantage.
