Job description

Job Description

Position Purpose:
To contribute to the NIBR drug discovery process with the goal to discover treatments for unmet medical needs which ultimately serve the patient.

Major accountabilities:
The Neuroscience Research Department at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is looking for a Scientific Associate with a strong background in the field of molecular/cell biology and molecular pharmacology to join their Neuroinflammation unit in Basel, Switzerland. The associate will join a lab working in the identification and validation of novel targets, the development of pharmacological assays and the identification/validation of biomarkers at the interface between neuroscience and inflammation. As part of a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative team, you will independently plan, execute and analyze experiments and interpret data aiming at the discovery of new therapeutic targets and drug leads. The group is using complex cell culture models, but is also establishing cellular high and medium throughput assays. On top of a solid neurobiological background, good knowledge of and experience with immunological methods would be an asset. You will work on early and advanced discovery projects using a wide range of molecular and cell biology techniques, while closely interacting with your lab head and colleagues. Using a variety of molecular biological (DNA, RNA isolation, characterization), cell biology (cell culture, transfection or viral transduction of primary cells), biochemical methods (Western, FRET, ELISA, etc), and technologies, such as multicolor flow cytometry (FACS), you will be responsible for the establishment of cellular/biochemical assays both for assessing novel targets as well as for the characterization of low molecular weight compounds.
