The Global Head Oncology Digital Innovation has the responsibility to build & develop the OBU Digital vision & agenda for the business unit as well as coordinate the efforts by which this agenda will be operationalized. He/she will also be responsible for executing against the strategy to enable Novartis Oncology leadership in this area, including in driving new value creation through digital, identifying & developing digital capabilities, establishing transformative partnerships & exploring new business models,. Given the fast-paced & competitive dynamics in the Oncology market, & the intersection of innovation, data, analytics & technology that is evolving, our leadership in Digital is critical for the sustained growth of our business. The impact on the business is expected to be substantial & is anticipated to create a meaningful value for the near- & mid-term plan for Oncology, e.g., in the order of $1B+ annual sales within 3-5 years. The head will also connect & represent the OBU digital strategy with Novartis’ overall digital strategy & drive cross-BU & divisional efforts to accelerate digital innovation, an imperative for the overall company strategy. The Global Head must establish an efficient operating model to improve coordination of all digital activities within the OBU & Novartis. The head will also ensure the establishment & coordination of key strategic digital partnerships that can propel key OBU priorities & improve our operating effectiveness.

Strategy and Plans
• Develop and lead the implementation of the OBU Digital Strategy
• Represent the Digital organization in front of the Oncology Executive Committee and the Digital Priority Board
• Provide strategic and program leadership for the OBU Digital Lighthouse
• Anticipate internal and external drivers of changes to strategy, and respond by making rapid, well-judged adjustments
• Identify potential issues; develop, align and implement mitigation strategies
• Communicate the strategy to OBU regions and functions as well as other divisions and ensure that the agreed strategy is reflected in the operations
• Lead and coordinate existing and any new partnerships with external companies on digital technologies or business models applicable to oncology
• Operations and Program Leadership
• Deliver OBU Digital Program to the satisfaction of the OEC
• Convene and lead high performing teams to achieve superior results in a motivating work environment
• Jointly with the Global Marketing and Regions, align on staffing and appoint initiative and track members of the Oncology digital community
• In partnership with organizational leads, align on goals, actively coach, and conduct the provide input into the performance appraisal of the functional reports
• Drive project operations to achieve superior performance
• Coordinate and oversee execution of the Digital Agenda strategy across all sub-teams and functions
• Be informed (have an “eagle view”) of key digital activities happening in the company and business unit
• Revise and approve partnership proposals. In some cases, be the key point of contact for some strategic deals
Make significant contribution to effectiveness and efficiency of the OBU through driving and enabling higher ROI activities
• Partner with the Oncology RWE organization to ensure alignment of strategy and use of data assets
• Ensure that key business priorities are rapidly supported with the right Digital strategy.
• Ensure tight digital collaboration between Development, Research, Commercial and Medical and Access to develop a consistent and efficient use of digital

Desired profile

Minimum requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in scientific, business or engineering discipline
Advanced degree preferred English required
One other language preferred 10+ years of health care or consulting experience oncology clinical experience strongly preferred.
5+ year experience in leading a digital or data organization, with a focus on leading the development and implementation of digital products.
Digital/software project management experience (ideally in health technology).
Experience in leading and closing cross-functional projects and familiarity with the Agile development process.
Proven people leadership capabilities – managing cross functional teams and ability to coach people
Strong reputation and creditability
Strong matrix management skills
Access to and familiarity with the external digital innovation ecosystem
