Job description

Planning, managing, executing and supporting mechanical design of assigned projects. Perform duties and mentoring and directing junior engineers with limited supervision and a high degree of responsibility, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, to specifications to Safran Test Cells Quality standards.

Duties:
• Responsible for the mechanical design of assigned projects
• Engineering, analysis, design, drafting, and verification
• Perform calculations, in activities related to product, form, fit, structural requirements and function supporting project requirements
• Team oriented, working with additional supporting mechanical engineers and designers
• Responsible for supervising and mentoring Mechanical Engineer-I personnel with their projects and design assignments
• Practice and encourage a First-Time-Right approach for the preparation of design deliverables per the approved budget and schedule
• Establish and verify design criteria, ensuring that product designs are produced in accordance with company design and quality standards and practices as well as customer specifications
• Ensure cost effective mechanical designs in compliance with specified technical and contractual requirements
• Design with total cost awareness including factors such as ease of manufacturing, material availability, minimizing likely deviation requests, shipping constraints, ease of installation and product maintenance and usability in addition to the amount of engineering effort required to complete the task. Completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision and in accordance with schedule and budget requirements
• Providing ongoing feedback to management on deliverables
• Acquiring ongoing knowledge necessary to perform job assignments and to improve technology, products and processes
• Product support through design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning, with travel as required to worldwide sites
• Work in close collaboration with the lead engineer
• Other duties as assigned

Candidate skills & requirements

Desired profile

• Highly organized, self starting, team oriented
• CAD and CAE; 3D Solid Modeling using Siemens NX, AutoCAD familiarity, FEA
• Clear and effective written and oral communication with co-workers, management, manufacturers and customers
• Strong analytical skills of applicable discipline , FMEA, Risk analysis
• Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Design and Drafting Standards, ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practices , AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code
• Proficient with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Design of jet engine test facilities and systems that are designed to withstand specified loading conditions, including material selection and specification, sheet metal, weldments, and machining and strength characteristics
• Engineering project management
• Designing in both US and SI units and materials
• Regulatory experience with CE and ATEX is a plus
