Job description

Define, design, and implement network communications and solutions within a fast-paced, leading edge database/applications company.

Perform performance trend analysis and manage the server/network capacity. Propose client configuration and implement technical solutions to enhance and/or troubleshoot the system. Work with others to define, coordinate vendor purchase needs. Responsible for support documentation as well.

Job duties are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. May have project lead role. 5 years of related experience in a medium to large network distributed and computing environment. BS in Computer Science or related field.

Cloud Operations Engineer: Nottingham

As a member of the European Cloud Operations team, you will be work out of our Nottingham tech centre for the Construction and Engineering Global Business Unit, supporting and operating some of our market leading SaaS offerings. Acquired by Oracle in 2018, Aconex is a well-established cloud hosted SaaS platform used worldwide by the construction industry.

In your capacity as a Cloud Operations Engineer, duties will vary from maintaining uptime and availability of our cloud hosted SaaS applications, to analysing and solving complex technical issues. You will contribute to driving efficiency in our cloud management processes through automation and infrastructure-as-code tools and techniques. Developing solutions which are repeatable to enable the rapid deployment and provisioning of new services and continue to improve the critical service we provide to our customers.

You will collaborate with geographically dispersed teams, carry out data-centre and cloud provider migrations, perform maintenance and upgrade tasks as well as build and deploy new services to support the release of code from the software development and engineering pipeline.

Your main responsibilities will include:

·  Maintaining uptime and availability of multiple SaaS products.
·  Trouble-shoot and proactively manage highly technical system issues.
·  Installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware and software.
·  Operating and contributing to automation and configuration management systems:
·  Puppet
·  Ansible
·  Capistrano
·  Jenkins
·  Operate and provision into cloud environments:
·  Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
·  Amazon Web Services
·  Ensure that all operational and administration activities are carried out with a focus on security and operational efficiency.
·  Operate and contribute to our monitoring and alerting stacks:
·  Nagios
·  Prometheus
·  Metrics
·  Logfile parsing and analysis
·  Work proactively with remote data centres and providers around the world.
·  Prepare reports for operational and management purposes.
·  Pro-actively contribute and support the team and Oracle.
·  Provide rotational on-call support including weekends, for multiple SaaS products, responding to infrastructure monitoring alerts and incidents.

Essential experience:
·  3-5+ years practical experience in a similar role with:
·  Linux and Windows Server administration
·  MS SQL Server
·  Enterprise virtualisation platforms – VMware or similar
·  Networking – TCP/IP stack, DNS and Linux based firewalls, routers and IPsec VPN's
·  Scripting and automation
·  Exposure to configuration management tools
·  Solid analytical skills for troubleshooting problems.
·  System and Network security practises and disciplines need to be demonstrated.
·  Willingness to proactively engage in continuous process improvement.
·  Ability to listen and communicate clearly with different areas of the business
·  Be a self-starter with the capability to work autonomously
·  Must be able to travel to other regions if required
Desirable experience:
·  Cisco switches and IOS
·  Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Amazon Web Services and/or Azure
·  Datacentre/cloud provider migrations
·  Oracle Database, PostgreSQL
·  Web application frameworks – Classic ASP, ASP.NET or Django
·  An understanding of the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) model
·  Practical application of infrastructure-as-code with Terraform
·  Practical experience with implementation of configuration management tools e.g. Puppet, Chef or Microsoft DSC
