R&D Specialist in Carbohydrates

Over the last 5 years, the 600-staff NRC has published around 1000 scientific publications in peer review journals and files about 80 patents every year. The NRC also has around 100 research collaborations with universities or research institutes around the world. The NRC is organized with three large research institutes for Nutritional Science, Materials Science and Food Safety & Analytical Science. Research Units focusing on Clinical Development, and PetCare, complement these major Institutes. Lausanne is home to the two strongholds of Nestlé's fundamental research: the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) that investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, health and wellness.

Demonstrating excellent service orientation and communication skills , you will be executing projects (or activities within projects) requiring analysis and/or characterization of carbohydrates and will be providing scientific and technical support to other Nestlé entities within R&D and operations.

Key responsibilities

· Develop and validate fit for purpose analytical methods for the quantification of carbohydrate components in food matrices and biological samples.
· Build and document knowledge about latest methods, trends and developments in carbohydrate analyses (and carbohydrate science in general).
· Integrate interdisciplinary knowledge into business context, e.g. carbohydrate (bio)chemistry knowledge to explain prebiotic concepts
· Explore, identify and translate patentable breakthrough data into business relevant patent applications.
· Recommend, plan and deliver technical and scientific support for projects related to the characterization/quantification of carbohydrates in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
· Ensure End to End project management and client-oriented Project Transfer are within timelines and planned costs.

Education and experience

· PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or food chemistry applied to carbohydrates.
· Excellent knowledge in carbohydrates area
· Expertise in polysaccharide/oligosaccharide analysis and characterization would be an asset.
· A working knowledge of one or more of the following techniques GC, HPLC, NMR, mass spectrometry.
· Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written)
