We are seeking an Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Technician for our Mars Petcare site in Fort Smith, AR.

The HSE Technician reports to site HSE Manager and is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities as part of the overall deployment of the regional HSE program. Through the development of an overall Safety, Security and Environmental Management System, Mars has embedded this value into the organization. The site HSE Technician plays an essential role in this management system through hands-on execution of the Global / Regional HSE Standards, fostering a robust HSE culture and driving associate involvement.

What would be your key responsibilities?

·  Ensure site maintains continuous “audit ready” state of compliance with company and governmental HSE standards.
·  Responsible for the development, deployment of all company HSE standards as they specifically apply to the site.
·  Accountable for the execution of all site environmental compliance programs, including air, stormwater, water, spill control, and wastewater. Ensures all testing required by company standards are met on time.
·  Executes proper management of the sites hazardous waste management activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, local and company regulations and standards.
·  Develop and deploy the site specific HSE programs and plans to position the site as a best in class organization.
·  Delivers training and coaching to establish clear understanding / engagement by all site associates on HSE expectations.
·  Ensures investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drives completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence are effectively implemented, this includes execution of corrective actions developed from other site incidents.
·  Serves in conjunction with site HSE Manager, as a HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function to include capital project review and risks management associated with non-capital modifications.
·  Ability to influence where direct lines of authority do not exist.
·  Leads and ensures the site emergency response team (ERT) has the tools, skills and knowledge to effectively respond to site HSE emergencies.

What are we looking for?

·  Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in science (ex. engineering, safety, IH, etc.) is preferred.
·  One to five (1-5) years’ experience managing safety and environmental programs in a manufacturing environment.
·  Demonstrated leadership in driving a program/system of safety or environmental in a manufacturing environment.
·  Basic knowledge of food manufacturing and GMP a plus.
·  Strong safety regulatory knowledge and expertise, required including EPA, OSHA and DOT.
·  Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis is desired.
·  Experience with laboratory safety (chemical hygiene, safe lab practices) is a plus.
·  Ability to interact with site level manufacturing/business management, and regulatory agencies is required.
·  Strong written and verbal communication skills including a high level of comfort developing and delivering training and motivational presentations to all levels of associates is a must.
·  Experience in management of Security function is a plus.
