Summary

Reporting to the Clothing, home & International Finance Manager, this role is accountable for working as part of a high performing team in a fast-moving shared service environment where passion, creativity and excellence are key. The Finance Analyst will manage the financial processes in M&S.com, responsible for accurate cost accounting of M&S.com Website costs, this includes 3rd Party costs required to Run the website and costs to develop the M&S.com website. The individual will support with business partnering the Functional Finance and Operational Managers and their teams , providing insightful analysis and challenging operational performance.

About the role Your key accountabilities will include:

• Accurate reporting of the M&S.com cost base. Support in the understanding of variances to budget and key cost drivers.

• Reconciliation of 3rd Party (TCS) engineer costs, ensuring that these are allocated and recorded correctly. Full reconciliation of the statement of work provided by TCS

• Setting clear monthly reporting deadlines and following up with various M&S .com contacts to obtain templates and performance commentary

• Responsible for the management of month end operating costs which includes posting of journals, and reconciling costs.

• Develop a detailed understanding of the intricacies in intangible accounting within an Agile project management framework within M&S.com.

• Point of contact for managing and responding to ad-hoc payment queries raised by the commercial team

• Ensure that all Balance Sheet accounts are fully understood, reconciled each month and are formally supported by independent data sources in line with M&S standards

• Supporting team managers with ad-hoc projects where required

• Ensure a strong financial control environment is maintained

• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and solid knowledge of fundamental accounting principles are essential.

• Build strong relationships with key business partners, managing regular dialogue to continue to drive improved performance, both within the M&S.com Finance team and the wider Business Service Centre

• Develop a continuous improvement culture within the team to ensure that the service is being delivered in the most effective way, putting the customer at the heart of everything the team delivers.

• Accountable for implementing and executing comprehensive quality checks to continually improve the quality of output

• Proactively taking action to resolve complex reconciliation issues

• Leading and directing key meetings with key stakeholders where relevant

• Delivering excellent customer service in support of our commercial business partners across M&S

About you Your skills and experience will include

• An Accounting background, part qualified CIMA / ACCA qualification

• Excellent stakeholder management with the ability to challenge operational managers and translate operational efficiency in to financial impact

• An understanding of intangible assets and related IFRS standards is desirable

• Strong ability to resolve complex issues

• Ability to provide credible support to non-financial managers within the business.

• Good IT knowledge and literacy – knowledge of SAP preferable, Advanced Excel, Power BI

• Must be comfortable comparing high volumes of data in different systems and providing insight from this.

• The ability to meet deadlines and effectively prioritise workload with a flexible & proactive approach is crucial

• Understanding of SLA’s and KPI frameworks

• Excellent numerical and analytical skills

• Strong accounting skills with previous experience of working in a fast-paced environment

• Continuous improvement approach to daily tasks to identify efficiencies in processes
