The Research Aide will act as team leader and support the day to day breeding activities for the Florida fresh market tomato breeding program.

Job description

With daily supervision from Research Assistants, Associates and/or Plant Breeders, the primary responsibilities for this position will include:
• Lead team of seasonal/contract workers for tasks including greenhouse plant care, pollinations, sowing, transplanting, harvesting, seed extraction, seed disinfection, seed packaging, and tissue sampling, and will perform these tasks themselves, as needed.
• Data collection, data entry and reports
• Assist in processing seed requests and related recordkeeping
• Ensure the accuracy of field and greenhouse plot labelling
• May work in the field, greenhouse, lab, office and other work environments required by the position.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed

Profile

Qualifications:
• High school diploma
• Fluent in English, with minimum conversational Spanish preferred
• Great interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and any email application.
• Must be detail oriented and able to perform accurate data entry.
• Must be able to travel occasionally.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
