Scientist Biochemistry (Viral Vaccines) (m/f)

Department/Project:

The subunit vaccine design (SUVD) team is part of the Viral Vaccines Department of Janssen and focuses on the design, development and evaluation of novel vaccines. The group covers the development stage starting from protein design and in vitro characterization of proteins and novel vaccine platforms. Later preclinical testing of vaccine leads is performed in close collaboration with preclinical evaluation team. The focus lies on the design of candidate vaccines and development and optimization of novel innovative methodologies aiming at increasing the efficacy of current and future vaccines.

Job Description:

The Scientist will be a key player in the production and characterization of novel viral protein vaccine leads. He/she will have the daily supervision of an Associate Scientist. The Scientist will work in a multidisciplinary environment and have a main focus on the characterization of novel protein designs using a range of biochemical and biophysical techniques. Since all research projects are carried out in teams comprising members from different departments of viral vaccines, teamwork and flexibility are two very important characteristics that are required attributes. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
·  PhD or equivalent experience and at least 3 years of Postdoc experience in a relevant discipline such as biochemistry or related fields.

·  Experience with the techniques such as mammalian protein expression, protein purification and characterization, biochemical/physical assay development are regarded as a must.

·  Experiences with the experimental design to reach project targets is highly favored.

·  Excellent communication skills with fluency in English is expected.

·  Previous experience in the field of Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) or other viral surface proteins is a plus.
