As a Food Technologist Apprentice , you will work in one of the most dynamic and fastest growing sectors in today’s market place. As a Food Technologist Apprentice, you will be passionate about your chosen field. You’ll ensure that Iceland’s own brand products are safe to eat, of consistent quality for our customers. You will also provide technical advice and support to the Distribution Depot, Iceland stores and wider Iceland buying teams.

What does the programme entail?

From day one of your Apprenticeship, you will be working alongside experienced Iceland Technical team members in our depots and have on the job training tailored to Iceland’s business needs. Alongside your day to day duties, you will be academically supported by the Nottingham Trent University Apprenticeship Course Leaders.

Nottingham Trent will provide training at their Brackenhust Campus where you will have access to the latest technology and meet other Food Technology Apprentices in the field.

What will I be doing on a day to day basis at Iceland?

·  Ensure that product quality issues are raised either internally or externally investigated with a swift and accurate assessment. Ensure solutions are provided that does not compromise food safety or quality, but also minimises that loss of stock to the business
·  Inspection of products against predetermined cycles, depot focus, and ad hoc product inspection requested by the co-ordinator/RQAM. Complete reports and communicate any issue to the team
·  Raise specification issues, record on the log and ensure the issues are closed out to an acceptable resolution
·  Inspection of stock from trailer, backhaul and store breakdowns. Ensuring inspection is at a level that provides full and detailed profile of the stock involved. Investigate delivery temperature issues
·  Monitor depot standards and communicate any issues to Depot management
·  Ensure that all reports, rejections, non-conformances & breakdown are detailed, accurate and minimise stock loss without compromise to safety or quality
·  Attend monthly Depot Hygiene audits with XPO management, when required, ensuring they are full, accurate and corrective actions are captured and recorded with timelines

·  You will be able to work as part of a team and have excellent communication skills
·  You will be numerate and computer literate
·  Enjoy solving problems and be an analytical thinker
·  Detailed focus and structured in your approach
·  You must be eligible to work in the UK
·  Have no food restrictions due to the nature of testing food

·  Have a genuine interest in food, and food quality
·  Someone who wants to work for a leading food retailer
·  You will be results orientated and be detailed focused

Desired qualifications:

A GCSE C or Level 4 and above equivalent in English and maths.

Future prospects:

Varied opportunities to progress within Iceland within Food Technology.

Have no food restrictions due to the nature of testing food.

Shift patterns- 6am-2pm or 10 am -6pm Sunday to Thursday Monday to Friday Alternative weeks

Total hours per week: 37.50
