Role Summary/Purpose

The Loads & Controls organization is seeking a Principal Engineer with demonstrated wind turbine system and controls expertise to provide leadership in the development and implementation of key controls technology that reduces loads & operability issues constraining turbines & wind energy systems cost, increases power output, and improves availability.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Principal Engineer - Controls Engineering, you will:

·  Provide key wind turbine controls expertise through all phases of product and technology development from requirements definition through design and development, validation and product life-cycle support
·  Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art controls to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs
·  Act as a champion for design quality in controls for the broader team and ensure lessons learned are being fed back
·  Provide technical guidance, direction, and training to new and experienced control and simulation engineers, and field specialists or technicians
·  Have ownership of technical training material and responsibility to drive expert’s knowledge to engineers within the wind business
·  Own and maintain new and revised design practices to ensure organizational learning
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Master’s Degree in Engineering or Science from an accredited college or university or equivalent knowledge / experience
·  Considerable industrial experience

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

·  EU Work Permit if hired in Spain

Desired Characteristics

·  Experience / proficiency with the wind turbine or farm design / analysis and simulation tools e.g., at least one of aero-elastic wind turbine simulation tools ( e.g. Bladed, Flex5) or Multi-body dynamics software (SIMPACK, ADAMS, etc.)
·  Recognized expert in the field of wind turbine control systems and controller / features development
·  Proficiency in Matlab / Simulink or similar programs, scientific computing and/or programming with C, Python, Delphi etc
·  Track record of leading major controls technology projects impacting turbine or farm loads, performance, or operability
·  Demonstrated capability to take a controls technology from the conceptual stage to commercial product application
·  Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
·  Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, backed by clear oral / written communication ability
·  PhD in Engineering from an accredited college or university with a focus on controls, wind energy, or system dynamics or equivalent knowledge / experience

·  Problem analysis and resolution skills, demonstrated in team environments that had diverse & global participation
·  Experience with real-time control systems such as the MarkVIe
·  Knowledge of standards relevant to Wind Turbine certification and penetration of future Wind Energy Systems into world markets
·  Proven ability to drive Technology innovations in Controls & Operability using external networks
·  Strong knowledge of control system theory, controller algorithm and framework development
·  Ability to shape control systems and functional safety systems architectures for future GE Renewables products
·  Track record of filing Invention Disclosure Letters and patent applications
