Role Summary/Purpose
MS Applications Software Development and Delivery. As a Power System Engineer –WAMS Applications, you will be responsible for performing basic power systems engineering assignments involving software development and delivery in the area of SynchroPhasor Technology in support of WAMS projects.
Essential Responsibilities
· Contributing towards synchrophasor applications development and delivery to our customers
· Responsible for defining software requirements and preparing functional software specifications based on project needs and/or customer discussions
· Work with the Software Development team to implement the software requirements ensuring that the software development processes are being followed
· Providing input to Project and Release Manager
· On schedules and cost estimates
· Interfacing with customers on specific projects or technical issues
· Support customer acceptance testing of new applications and features
· Providing limited marketing support for proposals and demonstrations to potential customers
· System integration, testing and troubleshooting
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
· MSEE with thesis or related work in power systems, electrical engineering or computer science
Eligibility Requirements
· Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We may sponsor individuals for
employment visas for this job in certain circumstances.
· Requires travel 20 - 30% of the time.
· May be required to work extended hours, carry a pager/cell phone and be on call.
Desired Characteristics
· Good understanding of power systems and/or synchrophasor applications
· Prior experience with synchrophasor related algorithm or application development
· Good programming experience in C++, C#, Java or similar languages
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Highly motivated and self-driven individual with problem solving skills will be given a priority
· Proven software design skills at the application and technical area level
· Strong Digital Signal Processing knowledge and experience in using Stability Analysis software such as Powetech DSA tools, PSLF, and/or PSS/E is a plus.
· Prior experience with synchrophasor related application or algorithm development and familiarity with synchrophsor related protocols (e.g. IEEE C37.118, IEC 61850-90-5).
· JEE, Java/RDBMS and .NET experience is a plus.
· Familiarity with the development tools like Visual Studio, Eclipse or IntelliJ
· Good understanding of database operations.
· Basic understanding of assigned technical area and EMS software
· Knowledge of Utility client’s perspective and needs is a plus
· Knowledge of utility industry practices is a plus
