Role Summary/Purpose
In this role, you will perform diverse assignments to support operations at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s Vallecitos Nuclear Center (GEH VNC), a commercial nuclear research and development facility. As a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician, you will process customer parts shipments to complete the neutron test reactor (NTR) radiography non-destructive testing method in accordance with approved procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
As the NDT Technician, you will:
· Embrace GEH VNC’s nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security and quality
· Setup and label customer equipment for radiography in accordance with existing NTR setup procedures
· Perform irradiation and retrieval of irradiated samples in accordance with NTR SOPs
· Use the NTR film processing equipment for processing of radiography films of equipment
· Startup and shutdown the film processing equipment as needed and in accordance with the equipment operating instructions
· Prepare post-radiography irradiated equipment for survey and release for shipment
· Present completed radiograph films to authorized GE film reviewers for acceptability prior to packing for shipment.
· Re-perform radiographs for any films found unacceptable. Unpackage and repackage customer’s equipment.
· Review and verify materials unpacked vs. customer’s documentation
· Perform packaging of completed radiographs and equipment released for shipment back to the customer
· Maintain Quality Assurance records for radiograph films produced including traceability and customer specific data documentation
· Provide documentation of all radiography performed to GE for customer billing
· Responsible for understanding and adhering to safety controls for materials, equipment and facilities at VNC
· Ensure compliance with all compliance, safety and quality regulations through use of procedures, compliance calendars, databases and tracking systems
· Must work with minimum supervision, exercising independent judgment relative to techniques and methods pertinent to assigned area of responsibility
Qualifications/Requirements
· High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in a nuclear facility
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
· Required to work in radiological controlled areas utilizing prescribed PPE
· Ability to and willingness to lift, push, and pull weights up to 50 pounds including moves above the shoulders and below the knees
· Ability to operate a computer
· Ability and willingness to become NDT 2 certified in the Neutron Radiography method
· Ability and willingness to work overtime and shift variations as needed
Desired Characteristics
