Role Summary/Purpose

The Materials Engineer will form an integral part of the Subsea Production Systems & Services (SPS&S) Materials and Process Engineering (MPE) department, and will primarily work within the Manifolds, Connection and Distribution Systems product line. The Materials Engineer is required to take full ownership of all associated activities with the role as outlined below.
Essential Responsibilities

Whether through identifying new materials with enhanced properties, or by developing new manufacturing approaches to deliver cost benefit, the Global MPE team are challenged with developing Materials and Process solutions to take Subsea Production Systems into the next stage of their evolution.

Making use of prior experience and a passion for materials engineering the candidate will;
• Provide guidance and support on topics associated with materials selection, metallurgy, manufacturing processes, polymeric materials, coatings and corrosion assessments / cathodic protection (CP) design within the Materials Engineering team and the wider engineering community.
• Act as assigned Materials Engineer / Subject Responsible Engineer on requisition assignments (FEED, ITO and OTR – for typically lower complexity projects) and execute all Materials & Process Engineering tasks with efficiency and integrity. Tasks include but are not limited to;
o Review and perform technical evaluations of contract requirements, design codes, manufacturing standards and specifications,
o Customer contact – writing technical clarifications/exceptions and attend meetings on materials selection and manufacturing,
o Definition of BHGE/Contract requirements - writing of technical reports and specifications,
o Provide materials selection and fabrication advice during design phase,
o Establish CP design criteria, perform CP calculations and write associated philosophies and reports,
o Support to supply chain, attendance at audits and pre-production meetings,
o Review of vendors’ special process procedures, such as e.g. manufacturing and coating procedure specifications, for use in the manufacturing of subsea equipment,
o Review and disposition of concessions and deviations.
• Support in developing and updating engineering guidelines, specifications and best practices by providing and utilizing experience from requisition assignments.
• Potential to execute and take the responsibility of the above identified tasks on an EPC project level and/or across the Product Lines.
• Ensure compliance initiatives are implemented and training requirements are met.
Qualifications/Requirements

• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Technology, Chemistry, or Corrosion Science matching responsibility from an accredited college or university. Newly graduates will also be considered. Certifications in Corrosion, Cathodic protection and Coatings are of interest.
• Good understanding of metallurgy, polymeric materials / coatings, material manufacturing processes, and corrosion assessments.
• Understanding of corrosion and environmental degradation mechanisms associated with the (subsea) oil and gas industry
• Good English language skills (written and oral)
• Willingness and ability to travel, as required
