Position summary

The Machine Learning group at Ericsson Research in Stockholm is a research group working on all aspects of data; storing and retrieving data, statistics and data mining, systems that automatically learn from data, computing in distributed systems and visualization of insights.

Mobile networks are today the main providers of internet connectivity to mobile users. To quickly detect and fix potential problems in these networks is crucial to be able to ensure a good user experience level. One key technology to accomplish this is machine learning that allows us to automate some management related tasks. Another key technology is data visualization and how to visualize the insights from the machine learning process so that operators easily can understand how the network is performing, being able to quickly focus on the relevant information and act upon it.

This thesis work aims to investigate the potential for new interactive data visualization technologies such as augmented- and virtual reality and how these technologies can be used to improve the human understanding of network operations.

The thesis would involve the following steps (can be adjusted to research interest of the candidate):

• Literature review, identifying and reading relevant state-of-the-art in data visualization

• Design interactive data visualization concept(s) for selected data sets

• Implement prototype of selected data visualization concept(s)

Qualifications

We are looking for an open-minded student who seeks challenging research work with the freedom to propose and develop your own ideas. To be successful in this thesis work the candidate would need the following:

• MSc studies in Computer Science or similar area.

• Excellent skills in programming languages (c#, python, javascript or similar).

• Excellent skills in 3D modeling (Unity, OpenGL)

• Experience in data processing for data visualization purposes

• Like to build end to end prototypes and concepts

• Be fluent in English.
