WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE

Organization

Within the Division Business Innovation Oversight (BIO), the mission of Market Modeling & Market View (3MV) is to build and maintain GEM competitive advantage by an in depth understanding of commodity markets. We sit on the trading floor and cover coal, gas, power and oil markets. We develop fundamental market analysis to define GEM market views and to propose trading strategies or business ideas.

 
Role

Data Scientist  will coordinate developments of the team on innovative methods to analyze commodity markets (power, gas, oil, coal, CO2).

It will focus on fostering machine learning, automated analysis on commodity market fundamentals (supply/ demand forecast).

He/She supports the traders and GEM front entities and develops directional market views.

 
Main activities
·  Translate market analysis into trading strategies or business ideas
·  Advice GEM and Engie divisions about market evolution impact on asset valuation and risk management
·  Manage and contribute to projects related to fundamental market analysis. Validate data sources; develop fundamental models or tools; set up and publish regular and ad-hoc reports
·  Develop close relationship with traders and provide some real time support
·  Pro-actively inform management of structural moves in the markets and the resulting risks or opportunities for GEM & Engie
·  Collaborate with traders and operational teams to better answer and anticipate their needs
·  Promote team spirit and collaboration

YOUR PROFILE
 
Education & professional background
·  Master of Science or PhD, or equivalent experience
·  Experience in a trading environment: ability to work with traders, to translate market analyses into propositions/Strategies and to communicate them clearly

Technical, Operational & Business Skills
·  Good knowledge of commodity markets (power, gas, oil, coal, CO2)
·  Strong analytical and programming skills: Ability to build models  + ability to apply data science & machine learning to operational topics
·  Excel, VBA, SQL, Python or other modeling languages
 
Behavioral skills
·  Good communication skills: Ability to explain complex issues; ability to work in multi cultural environment
·  Reactivity, creativity, initiative, ability to cope with tight deadlines, team spirit

·  English: fluent
