2019-9725Description de la Direction
The Institute of Research in Fundamental Laws of the Universe (Irfu) is a research institute of CEA Paris Saclay dedicated to experimental research in fundamental physics. Almost 600 physicists, engineers and technicians collaborate daily on international projects on particle, nuclear physics and astrophysics using different instrumental setups like particle accelerators, satellites or ground based telescopes.
Description de l'unité
The astrophysical Departement (DAp) is one of the major space laboratories in France. In direct collaboration with the French Space Agency (CNES), it plays major roles in the ESA space missions of the Cosmic Vision programme, bilateral missions with the USA, China and Japan. The Department is also involved in the development of ground based instruments mainly in the framework of the European Southern Observatory.

Description de l'offre
The Astrophysical Department (DAp) of CEA/Irfu is looking for an instrumentalist physicist in order to participate to the ground calibrations of the MXT telescope, that will be flown on the Sino-French mission SVOM.
The Space based Variable astronomical Object Monitor (SVOM) mission is planned for launch by the end of 2021, and will be dedicated to the observation of Gamma-Ray Bursts and other variable high-energy sources. It will carry on board four instruments, a wide field hard X-ray coded mask telescope (ECLAIRs), a narrow field focussing soft X-ray telescope (MXT), a gamma-ray spectrometer (GRM) and a visible telescope (VT). See www.svom.fr and https://arxiv.org/abs/1610.06892 for more information.
CEA-DAp has the PI-ship the MXT telescope, which is based on the innovative Lobster-Eye optical concept and and a 256 x 256 pixel silicon imaging spectrometer of pnCCD type. CEA-DAp will also develop the MXT camera and host the MXT Instrument Center (MIC).
The post-doc will integrate the MXT team at DAp under the responsibility of the MXT PI and will actively participate to the ground based calibration campaigns at camera and telescope level.
His/her duties will include :
ground calibration data analysis
physical modeling of the instrument response
contribution to the definition of the calibration procedure
contribution to the definition of the in-flight calibration plan
contribution to ground analysis software (MIC)
Desired profile
Profil du candidat
The successful candidate shall have a PHD in physics or astrophysics, be skilled in data analysis and physical detector modeling. Experience on X-ray astrophysical instrumentation is required and an high-energy astrophysical background will be a criterion of preference.
