Principal Systems Engineer – SMS Systems Design

Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer – SMS Systems Design (Signature Management System) to join BAE Systems at our site in either Frimley or Weymouth.

As a Principal Systems Engineer – SMS Systems Design you will leading the design and delivery of the Data Acquisition System (DASys). You will work closely with customers and cross-functional teams to define system requirements, component architectures and support development of system functional and data models.

This role will provide you with the chance to work with the development of cutting edge systems on military platforms of national importance.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer – SMS Systems Design will involve:

The specification of design solutions, derivation and down selection of design options, oversight and reviewing of detailed design and development of the acoustic signature elements of the SMS Sub System.

Supporting the definition of open tactical data services for new message types

Providing assistance in addressing design and delivery queries

Producing and updating interface documentation to support the Combat System lifecycle maturity schedules

Reviewing and updating of functional and non-functional requirements

Supporting/managing design reviews of SMS and DASys, as well as the resolution of design issues

Supporting/generating the SMS Integration Test Evaluation and Acceptance Plan

Supporting the development of the SMS programme ensuring deliverables for the DASys are delivered to the schedule

Your skills and qualifications:

Analogue data acquisition system design, (analogue signal conditioning, analogue filters, and analogue to digital converters for high dynamic range, low noise, phase accurate systems)

Time synchronisation methods for distributed data acquisition systems, including IRIG B, PTP, SyncE, TSN

Ability to specify and select enclosures for harsh environments (such as heat, EMC, and vibration)

Experience across the full systems engineering life cycle, including requirements management, integration, and acceptance

Complex Systems and Support:

Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers.
