Subject of the internship:

Steelmaking is a resource intensive industry. Different ways of saving energy and material in our plants are being studied and implemented inside ArcelorMittal. As in all efficiency approaches, we first optimize our processes , then reuse residual energy/waste inside our processes as much as possible but also consider options outside the plant. All this work is deeply relying on the quality of the data that we use to model our processes. ArcelorMittal is thus interested in the characterization and the modelling of the data to be able to represent process operation as closed as possible to the realistic constraints.

The objective of the training period is to characterize and model iron and steel plant data.
The trainee will have to gather data over time on the existing material and energy streams and draw a deep analysis to identify for each process the representative periods of operation as well as to predict new periods in the context of energy and resource uses improvement. Steps of the student work:
• Understand industrial processes related to iron and steel plants
• Gather data over time of the material and energy streams
• State of the art in data analysis (e.g. statistical methods) and application in iron and steel industry with very variable data over time
• Identify and perform data treatments (e.g. statistical methods) to define relevant periods and define representative values for each variable over time
• Focus on the steam network of iron and steel plants
• Draw a deep analysis and a complete methodology to study and treat complex iron and steel data to characterize the related processes
