We own the selection of the advertisements on Amazon search pages that can enhance the shopper experience while enabling tens of thousands of brands to reach Amazon's hundreds of millions of shoppers worldwide. We work on a range of technologies including core web services, spark big data pipelines, distributed caching systems and predictive models/machine learning systems.
What's the vision for the Headline Search engineering teams?
To create an advertising destination for brands and shoppers that enable shoppers to discover brands and brands to engage with shoppers on multiple levels including awareness and purchase.
What's the business opportunity?
Recent external surveys show over 60% of online shoppers in the US start their product searches on Amazon. As a result the monetization opportunity to show relevant ads is significant. We expect to grow the advertising business by an order of magnitude over the next few years, while creating an experience where ads enhance shopper engagement by selecting the right ad for the given context.
What's the career opportunity?
As a software engineer on the headline search ads team, you will have to opportunity to design and develop projects that has large impact to several thousands of advertisers and several million shoppers and have a significant impact to the Amazon bottomline. What do you own?
As a technical owner at Amazon, you will be responsible for contributing to or leading the design of our ad systems. You will contribute substantially to new architectures to improve our scale and performance. You will drive the encapsulation of existing functionality behind discrete services which form a part of our larger company-wide service oriented architecture. You will also lead the proactive identification of common problem spaces across your team and ensure we build single, best-in-class solutions to meet common needs without undue restriction on the agility of individual ad programs. You will help drive the direction and overall development of a world class technology organization.
· Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or related technical discipline
· Experience with object-oriented design skills and common design paradigms
· Coding skills (Java or C/C++ on a UNIX or Linux platform)
· Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and databases.
· Experience writing unit and system level tests using dependency injection frameworks and object mocking
