Search Operations Engineer

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a talented systems development engineer to be part of a global team running one of the world's largest search infrastructures. The Search Operations Engineer is responsible for all operational aspects of the search service and will actively lead efforts to improve the availability, performance and customer experience. You will support a diverse array of systems from customer search queries through product indexing. In this role you will focus on and be responsible for the following deliverables:
· Ensure reliable software, configuration and data deployments
· Champion operational excellence to continuously improve testing, automation and monitoring
· Develop and maintain software to automate toil away
· Mentor Operations, Dev and QA teams on the usage of tools, services, technologies and best practices
· Devise, review and execute scalability and performance validations for peak events
· Provide on-call support during business hours (including weekends and holidays) in a shared rotation for production search services
· Perform root-cause analysis on complex software, scalability and performance issues
· Triage and manage large scale customer impacting events in high pressure situations

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· At least 3 years of recent operations experience in a large scale production Linux environment
· Excellent judgment in high pressure situations
· At least 3 years of scripting and software development experience
· Able to design and analyze highly available distributed systems
· Able to learn quickly and serve as mentor and coach
· Experience with capacity planning and performance measurement
· Experience in designing and implementing scalable solutions for large fleets
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience
