Honeycode enables users to build mobile and web applications easily and efficiently without needing programming skills to empower team collaboration and innovation. Low Code/No Code is still at its early stage and at AWS we are uniquely positioned to redefine what it means and make it mainstream with our hyper focus on customers. As a Principal Engineer for Honeycode Data Engine you will lead the architecture design, delivery and operation of the core data service and compute engine that fuels the entire product user experiences across web and mobile at very large scale. You will interface with teams across front-end, backend, and the plumbing in-between to optimize for best end to end customer experience and enable faster delivery of new capabilities and innovation. You will engage in continuous monitoring, tuning and optimizing the core system reliability, performance, scalability and efficiency. You will collaborate with the leadership team across engineering, product, UX, business and partners across AWS/Amazon, to help define our strategy, roadmap, design, develop, and deploy end-to-end. You will regularly contribute to the professional development of colleagues and make the team stronger.
The ideal candidate should have deep expertise in large scale backend service architecture design, implementation and operation in distributed computation service, database (relational or non-relational), storage system, notification/event system, or related areas. You should have a strong track record of creating reliable, scalable, and high-performance cloud services at high standard, with a passion for customer experiences.

As a Principal Engineer at Amazon you’ll be expected to:
· Serve as a technical lead on our most demanding, cross-functional projects.
· Interact directly with customers to understand how to improve our technology to better meet their needs
· Ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems
· Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions
· Fully and completely understand system inter-dependencies and limitations
· Possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices
· Leverage knowledge of internal and industry prior art in design decisions
· Effectively research and benchmark Amazon technology against other competing systems in the industry
· Contribute intellectual property through patents
· Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members
· Exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience.
You are a visionary leader, builder and operator. You have experience leading or contributing to multiple simultaneous product development efforts and/or IT projects and initiatives. You are able to balance technical leadership and savvy with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology. You’ll strive for simplicity and will demonstrate significant creativity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Passion for customer experience and usability, and solving problems involving complex distributed systems
· Expertise in servicing/operating business critical enterprise grade software
· Experience with agile software development methodologies like scrum.
· Experience with technical coaching and influencing software engineering best practices within your team
· Desire to work in a highly-collaborative environment
· Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment such as with multiple priorities.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts
· Able to work with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· BA/BS in computer science, or related experience
· 10+ years of relevant, broad engineering experience required
· Expertise in leading client/server architecture design, implementation and operation for full stack solutions of very large scale, end user facing services that spread across web, mobile and cloud
· Deep understanding of frontend and full stack development framework and technologies
· Expertise in performance optimization for end to end user experiences
· Experience mentoring/training the engineering community on complex technical issues
