The Amazon Robotics (AR) Operations organization oversees the manufacturing of high-quality robotics and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions. It’s a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, and is driven by data and performance indicators.

As a Mechanical Engineer on the Technical Operations team, you will develop automated test and manufacturing solutions for a wide array of robotic systems, ranging from simple tools to highly complex electro-mechanical assemblies. You will work in a fast paced, ambiguous, start-up like environment with a desire to think big and scale designs to meet the growing demand of our manufacturing partners. You will work with a cross-functional team to effectively improve quality, accuracy, and speed of manufacturing processes.

Job Responsibilities:
· Support and foster a culture of inclusion.
· Develop within a cross-functional team to execute prototype and product designs.
· Own requirements definition, design, and development for mechanical components of test equipment which tests: printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), sensing technology, electro-mechanical sub-assemblies, and robotic systems.
· Create design risk assessment documents to ensure designs are safe for operator usage.
· Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
· Work with a Program/Project Manager to estimate schedules, and project budgets.
· Partner with 3rd party designers and manufacturers to accomplish project goals.
· Create presentations and whitepapers to communicate ideas, concepts, and designs to senior leaders.
· Document new and updated designs via Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) including a Bill of Materials (BOM).
· Verify and validate prototype designs of large test equipment.
· Gather feedback from technicians and operators to improve designs and processes.
· Up to 10% travel required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant graduate mechanical degree.
· 6+ years of relevant work experience.
· Problem solving skills, including knowledge of 8D, Six Sigma, DOE or similar disciplines.
· Demonstrated mentoring skills working with junior engineers.
· Proficiency documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5.
· Experience designing large weldment structures.
· Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys Finite Element Analysis tools.
· Knowledge of volume manufacturing.
· Experience designing and troubleshooting complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, or pneumatic systems.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant 4-year mechanical degree.
· 3+ years of relevant work experience.
· Experience scoping, designing, and analyzing mechanical systems.
· Practical knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
· SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, and complex configuration management.
· Experience creating proof-of-concept parts and prototypes utilizing machining, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing methods. Hands-on prototyping skills to support rapid development cycles.
· Ability to define, track, and complete ambiguous tasks in a fast paced environment with changing deliverables and milestones.
· Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and engineering change management.
· Ability to write and create clear, concise technical documents and drawings.
