Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Functional Safety Engineer with an emphasis on Industrial Machine Safety and Safety Systems. This position is responsible for new and existing product support related to regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized team player with excellent communication and computer skills. The candidate will have a strong understanding of the regulatory compliance schemes and the process required to specify, test, qualify, document and maintain certifications related to Product Safety, Machine Safety, and Functional Safety compliance for domestic and international markets.

Responsibilities:
· Develop and manage a functional safety program to ensure that Amazon products are safe, compliant, operationally effective, and cost effective
· Work with certifying agencies and organizations to ensure new and existing designs comply with local, regional and national regulations
· Working with the product team, including the product/program managers, architects, and engineers, to educate them on the regulatory requirements for new and existing products, help guide compliant design development and verify compliance through test and validation activities.
· Work with 3rd party NRTLs and labs to test and validate Amazon products and support testing from a hardware and software perspective
· Participate in certification of Amazon's industrial equipment, working with the Compliance, Engineering, Operations teams and other organizations across Amazon
· Work with Amazon suppliers to communicate regulatory requirements and verify compliance.

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in science or engineering
· 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in the automation or industrial equipment industry, with exposure to safety engineering in product development
· 2+ years of Functional Safety experience, preferably certified
· Knowledge of ANSI, ISO, IEC Standards, EU directives and OSHA regulations including machinery safety standards and functional safety, e.g. NFPA 79, ANSI RIA R15.06, ISO 13849, EN 60204, ISO 12100, IEC 61508
· Experience in risk management and performing risk assessments
· Experience working with NRTL agencies in certifying new products
· Experience supporting Safety programs by means of identifying equipment needs, documentation needs, support equipment needs, staging and support of equipment to be tested, debug capabilities, etc.
· Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, test labs, etc.
· Experience in supporting contract manufacturer with NRTL factory or field inspections
· Experience in supporting engineering change control processes
· Experience in evaluating compliance of 3rd party products
· Willingness to travel up to 40%
· Ability to multitask in a high energy environment
