Team Description:

Being a leader in the distribution of air travel, Amadeus is in a comfortable position to tackle the challenge of multi-modal travel (also called Door-to-Door trips). The Door-to-Door shopping aims at proposing travel recommendations mixing air, rail, coach and/or urban transportation to transport the customer from his home for example to everywhere in the world. This Door-to-Door shopping is a complex process, but also a high growth potential market for the travel industry.

The Door-to-Door team is in charge of developing the Amadeus Door-to-Door solution. It relies on several platforms, including the Availability and Journey Server engines, components processing more than 6Million flights/second, powered by an OBE farm of 1000+ nodes. This massive throughput requires constant technology shifts, robustness, system stability and monitoring while always implementing new functionalities and innovative solutions.

When travel agents or future passengers do a request for a journey, the Journey Planning is a key process to identify the smartest routes covering this journey, and corresponding best travel solutions. Amadeus has a strong expertise for long distance journey planning, especially in Air and Rail industry.

Door-to-Door ongoing activities now raise new challenges for Journey Planning System: Solution search does not only handle the long distance, but also the “first and last miles” of the requested trip and the urban connections (between an airport and another airport or a rail station)

As part of these on-going activities, a Local Journey Planning comes as a key component; needed to identify the local solutions, corresponding timing etc.

Main Responsibilities:

The aim of this internship is to help the team to put in place a prototype for an in-house journey planning solution. The internship will go through two main phases, with a flexible scope:

1/ Assessment of data sources & algorithm

You will participate in reviewing and assessing the existing solutions and corresponding data model (eg. open data available in GTFS or NetEx format; existing APIs from Nokia, Bing, Google; local APIs such as RATP etc…) in order to gather local travel solutions.

Additionally, algorithms used for Air and Rail journey planner may not fit best the local context. A study may be required to evaluate solutions that are more appropriate for a local journey planner.

2/ Prototype development

Based on previous analysis, the intern will help the team todevelop a local journey planner prototype; used to retrieve actual solutions, or as a first step to provide informational details on local parts of the trip that could be used for Door-to-Door and multimodal offer building processes (first mile, last mile, and urban connections).
