Team Description

USR-BIN is in charge of the build framework, official builds and the development environment used by thousands of developers in Amadeus. Our clients are all other Amadeus developers.

Amadeus provides IT solutions for the global travel and tourism industry.

Main Responsibilities

Some Amadeus projects currently can take an hour or more to build, which is a problem for developers and integrators. The build should be accelerated.

A first study tends to show that the main reason for the build time is the Input/Output.

Some other tasks (such as some automatic tests or automatic runs) currently also take a long time to run, which is a problem for integrators and others. It should be faster.

We need a piece of software that is able to recognize whether a deterministic process has been already done in the past (even by someone else), and if so simulate it (from an external point of view, it looks like the same actions have been performed).

The intent is to try to avoid all kinds of latency causes (I/O...), possibly by the combined use of a cache and of filesystem layers capable of avoiding some I/O and simulating certain kinds of I/O.

The intern will participate to following tasks:

· Based on real use cases, identify the reasons of long build times
· Find existing build cache solutions and provide a comparison report
· Elect one or two solutions and perform a proof of concept to show the benefits of the solutions

The intern will be fully integrated to the team scrum activity and will work following the Agile methodology.

Requirements

· Knowledge of C/C++ development under GNU/Linux with GNU Make; Makefiles.
· Knowledge of GNU/Linux operating systems.

The following are pluses:

· FUSE: Filesystem in UserSpacE / Virtual filesystems
· Internals of the GNU/Linux file system
· Knowledge of some caching systems.
