Context

Prognostics and health management (PHM) consists of assessing the current and predicting the future health state of a system to optimize its maintenance. PHM is performed from the embedded extraction of relevant features named health indicators (HIs), from which symptoms are generated. Then, some processing algorithms elaborate diagnosis and prognosis that are used to maximize the system’s availability and reliability by optimizing the maintenance schedule.

Alstom Digital Mobility is launching various other innovative programs which will require data science skills , such as ‘intelligent traffic management”,  driver assistance, energy management, advanced field reliability analysis, etc.

Job description

The main challenge of PHM is to translate a set of disparate data such as temporal signals, Booleans or expert knowledge into anomaly detection, diagnosis and prognosis. Thus, PHM systems are particularly demanding in terms of data analysis. Data analysis skills are needed at different levels:

·  To extract relevant features from measured variables
·  To normalize the features
·  To perform anomaly detection on these features
·  To perform the classification of failure mechanisms from symptoms classification
·  To perform prognostics from the analysis of the historical data
·  To elaborate global diagnosis and prognosis from a fusion of local ones

In this context, we are looking for a data scientist whose mission will consist in:

·  Leadership role in the choice of approaches for:
·  Data mining to identify relevant information in multiple data sources
·  Signal processing to extract features
·  Statistical analysis to detect anomalies
·  Machine learning for the supervised classification of syndromes
·  Fusion algorithms to achieve global diagnosis and prognosis
·  Prototype development of data analysis algorithms and coding specifications
·  Bibliographical studies and technology intelligence to bring new opportunities

Candidate profile

·  Background and experience:
·  The successful candidate will have an engineering degree, supplemented by extensive training in data mining and/or machine learning.
·  Knowledge of the  following languages :  R , Python ( desirable)
·  Knowledge of fundamentals of modern statistics
·  Experience with database management ( mySQL,  noSQL, etc.)
·  Experience with LINUX environment (shell scripting)
·  Experience with machine learning algorithms tuning and validation
·  Experience with PHM is a plus.

·  A PhD in the fields of  statistics or machine learning   would be appreciated.
·  Languages:  fluency in English; French, Italian  or Spanish a plus.

Candidate skills

·  Software skills:
·  R, Python, Matlab
·  Data visualization software (Tableau, R shiny, PowerBI…)
·  Linux shell scripting
·  Technical skills:
·  Processing of digitized sensor data
·  Statistics
·  Supervised machine learning for classification (binary and multiclass)
·  Unsupervised machine learning would be a plus
·  Prognostics would be a plus
·  Information fusion
